Though, upon downloading these files I began running into a problem that there is no functionality to these pieces; meaning the hinges don't actually bend. They're fully designed of course, so I figured I could simply open the part in an assembly drawing, add a hinge mate and it would be good to go. However its simply not wanting to work. The mates don't accept (and to be fair i'm not too familiar with the hinge mates function to begin with so it could be a fault on my end) and I've tried googling this issue to see if others have struggled with this but all i find are "how to make" tutorials for hinges that I plan to use as a last resort.

If anyone has any solution for what I could do to make these hinges fully functional without going through the stress of finding a random video to help start developing my own hinge I would be greatly appreciative

The lid separated from the hinge and needs to be glued back together. Nothing is broken and the camera is still aligned. Any suggestions on a which adhesive to use? Glowforge support pretty much said to glue it and ask for recommendations.

Been scouring the internet for hours looking for a solution, to no avail. Nothing on these forums either!

How can I actively control hinges, for example using 1 and 0 keys to push them open and closed?

I'm able to toggle them to max and min angle, but there's no ability to throttle them.

...And that's it. You're done. If you launch that ship, pressing the I and J K keys will make the hinge open and close. Holding down I causes it to start opening, holding down J K causes it to start closing.

Usually door assemblies consist of jamb, door, hinges, and knob. Clicking the door assembly will rotate the door subassembly which has the moving half of the hinges, the door and the knob. The jamb, the hinge pin and the fixed half of the hinges remain stationary.

I have a sort of unique issue. I have door and a 3 part hinge that is mounted to a flange on a pressure vessel. I'm trying to simulate the deflection after hanging the door and suggest a way to improve the design so that it is easier to mount the door and counteract the door's large bending moment. It needs to swing freely and have some degree of adjustment, which is why the pins are there.

Im having issues properly constraining the simplified assembly so that I can get the correct response from the body. How should I constrain it such that I can properly get the door to attempt to rotate the hinge block, pins and bracket while keeping them sufficiently constrained?

I have tried planar constraints on the back side of the door, pin constraints on the hinge pins and removing the flange all together, placing fixed displacement constraints on the bracket face instead.

I came across a paper but the smooth approximation for the hinge loss function is wrong. Can someone guide me to the proper smooth approximation (using polynomials) of the function $$h(x)=\max(0,1-x)$$ which is exact when $|x| \ge \rho$, where $\rho$ can be made arbitrarily small?

The paper Differentially private empirical risk minimization by K. Chaudhuri, C. Monteleoni, A. Sarwate (Journal of Machine Learning Research 12 (2011) 1069-1109), gives two alternatives of "smoothed" hinge loss which are doubly differentiable.

I realize this is an old question, but it seems worth noting that the requested hinge function is probably the Huber loss. This is different from the ones discussed in other answers, and actually has a parameter $\rho \geq 0$ that can be made arbitrarily small. It can be defined as

As in the other answers, this is not "smooth" in the infinitely-differentiable sense, but it is in $C^1$. It is straightforward to show that $\lim_{\rho \rightarrow 0} h(x ; \rho) = \max(1 - x, 0)$ and it is exact for $|x - 1| \geq \rho$. This hinge function is sometimes used in SVMs [e.g., 1,2]. Here's a quick plot:

Monoclonal antibody (mAb) drugs that stimulate antitumor immunity are transforming cancer treatment but require optimization for maximum clinical impact. Here, we show that, unlike other immunoglobulin isotypes, human IgG2 (h2) imparts FcR-independent agonistic activity to immune-stimulatory mAbs such as anti-CD40, -4-1BB, and -CD28. Activity is provided by a subfraction of h2, h2B, that is structurally constrained due its unique arrangement of hinge region disulfide bonds. Agonistic activity can be transferred from h2 to h1 by swapping their hinge and CH1 domains, and substitution of key hinge and CH1 cysteines generates homogenous h2 variants with distinct agonistic properties. This provides the exciting opportunity to engineer clinical reagents with defined therapeutic activity regardless of FcR expression levels in the local microenvironment.

I think headset with some metal on the sliders and hinges are needed. I mean nice looking plastic does not beat metal. The part of the build is the design in that I think several headsets are made for say a smaller head and this may cause undo pressure at certain points that will eventually weaken.

Check out EMKA's large selection of hinges for industrial control cabinet construction and enclosure construction for every customer requirement. We offer visible, i.e. external hinges and invisible, i.e. internal hinges. EMKA hinges can be used for surface-mounted or internal doors on single cabinets or in-line cabinets with single or double doors. Our hinges are available in numerous materials (stainless steel, steel, GdZn / Zamak or polyamide) and surfaces (chrome-plated, galvanised, ground or black powder-coated).

For nonlinear static, and nonlinear direct-integration time-history analyses, users may simulate post-yield behavior by assigning concentrated plastic hinges to frame and tendon objects. Elastic behavior occurs over member length, then deformation beyond the elastic limit occurs entirely within hinges, which are modeled in discrete locations. Inelastic behavior is obtained through integration of the plastic strain and plastic curvature which occurs within a user-defined hinge length, typically on the order of member depth (FEMA-356). To capture plasticity distributed along member length, a series of hinges may be modeled. Multiple hinges may also coincide at the same location.

Both P-M2-M3 hinges and fiber hinges are available to capture coupled axial and biaxial-bending behavior. The P-M2-M3 hinge is best suited for nonlinear static pushover, whereas the fiber hinge is best for hysteretic dynamics. Additional information on hinges can be found in the CSI Analysis Reference Manual (Frame Hinge Properties, page 131).

Describing these decisions as "hinge points," he traces the consequences of opportunities missed by both sides. The result has been that successive U.S. administrations have been unable to prevent the North, with the weakest of hands, from becoming one of only three countries in the world that might target the United States with nuclear weapons. Hecker's unique ability to marry the technical with the diplomatic is well informed by his interactions with North Korean and U.S. officials over many years, while his years of working with Russian, Chinese, Indian, and Pakistani nuclear officials have given him an unmatched breadth of experience from which to view and interpret the thinking and perspective of the North Koreans.

I got my Dell Vostro 7620 in November 2022. It remains permanently on my desk as a secondary laptop for screen recording. Hardly has it moved away from my desk and only a few times has it been used. That said, my complaint is that I recently discovered one of the hinges to be cracked so I called up support for it to be replaced/repaired.

On getting through to support I was then told that I have one claim against "Accidental Damage" a year and that the only way it can be repaired is for it to be done under this claim. I then quickly did a research on the net for broken Dell hinges and found out that quite a lot of people have issues with Dell hinges and just like me even on fairly new laptops. I explained this to the support staff but they will not have it so I agreed for the repair to be done as "Accidental damage".

So today, an engineer came round and to my surprise, instead of changing just the hinge he had to replace the whole screen as the hinge cannot be detached. So I asked the engineer to let me take photos of the broken hinge as it was evident that the crack happened along the line of the molded joint on the "Plastic" plus it had a cables going through it and that would have exerted much pressure forcing it to crack (photo evidence exist.)

Take a look at the Screencast, it is a bit long, to explain placing the hinges and making the hinge active. The hinge is placed on the center of each component but can be moved to either side using the mounting rigid joints. Model is attached.

2. Requires math (hinge movement along overhang = 1,6826/sin(40), if I'm not mistaken) to let the door and the parallel side of the overhang get close to co-planar. However, this is still not exact, since it requires decimal places.

There is always another method! I assumed you have the door in the correct relationship to the overhang, if not get that right before starting the outlined process. My process this time requires no math, it does make the assumption that you want the hinge centered across the width of the door. Model is attached. 2351a5e196
