Cascadia Code is a new monospaced font from Microsoft that provides a fresh experience for command-line applications and text editors. Cascadia Code was developed alongside Windows Terminal. This font is most recommended to be used with terminal applications and text editors such as Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.

There are multiple versions of Cascadia Code available that include ligatures and glyphs. All versions of Cascadia Code can be downloaded from the Cascadia Code GitHub releases page. Windows Terminal ships Cascadia Code and Cascadia Mono in its package and uses Cascadia Mono by default.

PREAMBLE

The goals of the Open Font License (OFL) are to stimulate worldwide development of collaborative font projects, to support the font creation efforts of academic and linguistic communities, and to provide a free and open framework in which fonts may be shared and improved in partnership with others.

The OFL allows the licensed fonts to be used, studied, modified and redistributed freely as long as they are not sold by themselves. The fonts, including any derivative works, can be bundled, embedded, redistributed and/or sold with any software provided that any reserved names are not used by derivative works. The fonts and derivatives, however, cannot be released under any other type of license. The requirement for fonts to remain under this license does not apply to any document created using the fonts or their derivatives.

PERMISSION & CONDITIONS

Permission is hereby granted, free of charge, to any person obtaining a copy of the Font Software, to use, study, copy, merge, embed, modify, redistribute, and sell modified and unmodified copies of the Font Software, subject to the following conditions:

2) Original or Modified Versions of the Font Software may be bundled, redistributed and/or sold with any software, provided that each copy contains the above copyright notice and this license. These can be included either as stand-alone text files, human-readable headers or in the appropriate machine-readable metadata fields within text or binary files as long as those fields can be easily viewed by the user.

3) No Modified Version of the Font Software may use the Reserved Font Name(s) unless explicit written permission is granted by the corresponding Copyright Holder. This restriction only applies to the primary font name as presented to the users.

5) The Font Software, modified or unmodified, in part or in whole, must be distributed entirely under this license, and must not be distributed under any other license. The requirement for fonts to remain under this license does not apply to any document created using the Font Software.

The license for this font is the SIL OFL license. This license does not allow us to redistribute derivative versions of the font without wholesale name changes inside and out of the font. Until we figure out a reasonable method of delivering these to you and complying with the license, you will have to use the Webfont Generator yourself on these, renaming the fonts appropriately.

Cascadia Code is the latest monospaced font shipped from Microsoft and provides a fresh experience for command line experiences and code editors. Cascadia Code was developed hand-in-hand with the new Windows Terminal application. This font is most recommended to be used with terminal applications and text editors such as Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.

Cascadia Code[2] is a purpose-built monospaced TrueType font for Windows Terminal. It includes programming ligatures and was designed to enhance the look and feel of Windows Terminal, terminal applications and text editors such as Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code.[3] The font is open source under the SIL Open Font License and available on GitHub.[4] It has been bundled with Windows Terminal since version 0.5.2762.0.[5]

Multiple typefaces are part of the Cascadia Code font family, representing a variety of text styling options and adjustable weights. The main and Powerline variants of the types are suitable as display fonts. With the exception of Cascadia Mono, all types replace common character combinations with their elided counterparts. Other styles supported by this font family include textual arrows and stylistic sets for italics, alternate graphics, alternate control character glyphs, and a cursive form of italic. Tables of the supported styles and more examples can be viewed in the GitHub README document.

I find Cascadia Mono better legible than Atkinson Hyperlegible. The only thing I prefer in AH is that fractions, such as are better legible. That is just my view, of course, many people agree with you on AH.

A few days ago, Microsoft released a new monospaced font.

It's perfect for Terminal and Visual Studio Code.

The font is open source and licensed under the SIL Open Font License on GitHub.

It means that is very easy to contribute for everyone.

You can use this new font everywhere.

For example I use it in Terminal, Visual Studio Code and since a few days, in Visual Studio 2019.

You can install the latest version from the official releases page on GitHub: -code/releases

After the download, you can open the .ttf file and click on "Install".

If you have a previous version of the font, the new version overwrite the old one.

I recommend to uninstall the previous version before the new installation.

As I mentioned before, you can use Cascadia Code in Visual Studio as well.

From the menu Tools -> Options -> Fonts and Colors, select the font from the properly dropdown.

Font Ligatures in Visual Studio are enabled by default.

I used to setup all my IDE and editors with Fira Code, but now I switched everything to Cascadia Code.

If you want to contribute to the official repository, you can go here and fork the project.

If you are curious, you can read more on the offical release post.

After trying this font on my vscode, I switched back to Fira code, but it's a personal choice.

Personally, I Think Cascadia is more "blocky" and visually made it more difficult to understand the code I'm writing. Do you had any problems like me?

Jetbrains just came out with "Jetbrains Mono" a week or two ago. It's a pretty cool font that I am changing to. I haven't used Cascadia but I'll check it out too. I love all things jetbrains so I am a little bias :)

Windows 10 and 11 will soon get two new monospace system fonts. System fonts are the default installed fonts that are available to use in any apps and website. This is the first time since Windows Vista that Microsoft is adding new system fonts to Windows.

Consolas has been the modern monospace font of choice in Windows since Windows Vista. Web browsers and the Command Prompt still defaults to the much older Courier New for legacy compatibility reasons. Consolas has been the default font in Visual Studio (VS) and VS Code for years already.

Cascadia Code supports programming ligatures, which are most useful when writing code, as they create new glyphs by combining characters. This helps make code more readable and user-friendly for some people.

Microsoft has released a new font for command-line applications and code editors. The new and sleek monospaced font known as Cascadia Code was created hand-in-hand with the Windows Terminal. The name Cascadia Code is the remnant of the fact, that the Windows Terminal project codename was Cascadia before its release. 152ee80cbc
