Fish Pond Park Located just to the south of downtown at the end of West Lawton Street features an ADA accessible fishing pier with a large catch and release fishing pond. A covered shelter, picinic tables, benches and a port-a-potty make it a place to stay all day.

If you are looking for a scenic setting to enjoy a picnic lunch or just want to take a stroll and observe the natural surroundings, Cooter Pond Park is the place. The park, featuring a boardwalk, scenic overlooks and picnic areas, is within walking distance of government office buildings, the downtown historic district and 1912 Historic Courthouse.

Besides housing the namesake cooter turtle, lurking among the reeds and supports for the boardwalk alligators can be found ranging in size from 4 to 7 feet long. Though there is not an exact count of how many live in the pond, the reptiles are often spotted cruising the waters looking for food, their head and snout the only thing visible as a wake trails behind it.

There are numerous fish in the pond, including small bass and bluegill. When visiting the pond, you're almost guaranteed to see any one of several species of birds, including storks, egrets and herons.

Trailers and tow vehicles must park in the Towers Ocean parking lot. The maintenance vehicle crossing located at the southern end of the parking lot is designated for equestrian access to the beach. Designated beach for equestrian use runs from the crossing, south to within 200 yards of the Indian River Inlet. A sign at the toe of the primary dune will designate this southern boundary. The designated beach for equestrian use runs from the crossing, south to within 200 yards of the Indian River Inlet. A sign at the toe of the primary dune will designate this southern boundary. Horseback riding is permitted on the beach only. Trailers and tow vehicles must park in either the Gordons Pond Parking lot or the Point Comfort Station Parking lot. At Gordons Pond, the surffishing vehicle crossing is designated for equestrian access to the beach. At the Point Comfort Station lot, a dune crossing is marked and designated for equestrian access to the beach. Designated beach for equestrian use runs from the oceanside of the Point of the Cape south to the Gordons Pond surffishing vehicle crossing. (4.6 miles)

Trailers and tow vehicles must park in the bathhouse parking located north of Fenwick Island. The maintenance vehicle crossing located at the southern parking area is designated for equestrian access to the beach. Designated beach for equestrian use runs from the crossing north to the park boundary near South Bethany Beach. (2.6 miles)

Kayak, canoe, or pedalboat around the pond and look for wildlife. Spot turtles basking on logs, Great Blue Herons standing along the shoreline, and osprey flying overhead. Find the best fishing spots and reel in a largemouth bass.

Lums Pond State Park offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Plan a picnic, play a round of disc golf, bring your four-legged friends to the dog park, or go camping at the Lums Pond Campground!

As the largest freshwater pond in Delaware, Lums Pond is one of the best fishing spots in the state, with anglers landing crappie, bluegill, perch, pickerel, largemouth bass, and more. Individuals renting equipment must be at least 18 years of age, present a valid driver's license as proof of age, and may leave either the driver's license or $50 as a deposit.

The park will be recruiting for the nest box monitoring program and need your help to create a volunteer team dedicated to maintaining and monitoring the boxes in the park. This program will be an introduction to the importance and biology of bluebirds as well as what will be expected in the monitoring program. Volunteers for the monitoring must be 17 years or older but all are welcome for this introductory program.

Join a naturalist to learn about the reptiles in the park and meet some of the nature center reptiles up close to learn how we care for them. We will also do a fun reptile related craft to take home!Free.

Join us on a guided hike of the park an hour before sunset. Afterwards, bundle up by a cozy campfire. Each registration receives a packet with supplies for two s'mores. Hoo Hoo is up for a look into our feathery friends the OWLS! Join the naturalist as we learn about owls in the park and dissect owl pellets to see what kind of food they eat. For children ages 6 - 9.
