The Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) is an American non-profit cultural organization that promotes Indian theatre, art, film, fashion, music, dance, and literature in the United States. The Council was established in 1998 in New York City and is headed by Aroon Shivdasani.[1] IAAC hosts cultural and artistic events throughout the year, including the annual New York Indian Film Festival, which showcases Indian and diaspora-related films.

IAAC was founded on August 1, 1998 by the editor of India Abroad, Gopal Raju,[1] American choreographer Jonathan Hollander and Aroon Shivdasani, to promote the Indian arts to mainstream American media. In 2001, IAAC established The New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF) to promote Indian and diaspora-related film in the United States.[2] In 2004, IAAC began its annual contemporary art exhibition, Erasing Borders: Exhibition of Contemporary Indian Art of the Diaspora, which features art related to the Indian Diaspora.[3] In 2008, the council began its annual dance festival, Erasing Borders: Festival of Dance, which exhibits outdoor dance performances in Lower Manhattan.[4]

IAAC screens newly released Indian films throughout the year, both Bollywood and independent films, and holds Q&A sessions with the filmmaker after the screening. Such screenings have included 7 Khoon Maaf, Sita Sings the Blues, and My Name is Khan.[14]

NYIFF is IAAC's annual film festival which is held in New York City at Tribeca Cinemas. It was previously known as the Mahindra Indo American Arts Council Film Festival (MIAAC), and features films from the Indian Subcontinent, as well as from the Indian diaspora. About 40 films are screened, including features, shorts, documentaries, and animated films.[citation needed]

The festival also holds a sidebar retrospective on a prominent Indian filmmaker, actor, or artist. Past retrospectives have included Smita Patil, Mira Nair, and Rabindranath Tagore.[citation needed]

IGIFF is open for feature films and short films of fiction, narrative, live, animation, documentary, experimental, multimedia, as well as video-art, video clips, music, screenplays, narrative, commercial & social; national and international with all genres.

IGIFF is the short form for Indo Global International Film Festival.

All cinematographic works must have been completed after January 1, 2009.

Responsible for the film: Any natural or legal person of any nationality can participate.

Number of films per representative: each artist can submit an unlimited number of films.

The registration of films to the Festival takes place through all portals where we have officially listed our festival. We must receive confirmation of participation through one of these platforms, which includes an online link. The participant must ensure that the password does not change until the Festival ends.

The director or producer who holds the rights must register the film before our deadlines mentioned on portals where we have listed our festival for submission.

We accept films with all Languages with English subtitles. even silent films are most welcome.

Our judges' decision is and will be final decision about the films selection or non-selection. No arguements further will be entertained. We are and will not give any feedback of your film or submitted project and no clarification willbe given by our side about non-selection of submitted films. Hope you all will understand this.

IGIFF is now an online film festival with online screening restricted to our judges only. We don't screen any film at physical location or not online for public. As this is our initiave to support global filmmakers with more recognitions.

FEES

The fees for the submissions are mentioned on protal where filmmakers will submit the films.

Curator-ship: The Pre-Selection Committee will be made up of IGIFF members, who will carry out their work according to the parameters of quality and creativity previously set by the Festival Management, to choose the OFFICIAL SELECTION OF THE FESTIVAL.

Official Selection: The responsible for the selected film will be notified via email.

Jury: A qualified jury will evaluate the films of the OFFICIAL SELECTION to choose the winners for each category.

As we are the Online Film Festival, So we don;t do the projection of films.

During the celebration of the festival, if we needed, we the organization reserves the right to exhibit the selected films in as many public sessions as it deems convenient, at no cost to the festival.

We only publish winners list (film names) on our website and keep it on the website for 15 days or if needed more. As this is our social initiative to support more and more filmmakers from all across the globe.

Film Indonesia yang tercatat pertama kali merengkuh sejuta penonton adalah Nagabonar Jadi 2 dengan perolehan 1.246.174 penonton, disusul Get Married yang mematahkan rekor sebelumnya yaitu 1.389.454 penonton dan Quickie Express dengan perolehan 1.018.654 penonton yang semuanya ditayangkan pada 2007. Meskipun begitu, film Indonesia yang sebenarnya meraih sejuta penonton adalah Petualangan Sherina pada tahun 2000, tetapi tidak tercatat.[1] Pada tahun berikutnya, Ayat-ayat Cinta sempat menjadi film Indonesia terlaris sepanjang masa sebelum dikalahkan Laskar Pelangi pada tahun yang sama dengan rekor bertahan selama delapan tahun dengan perolehan 4.719.453 penonton.[2] Rekor tersebut kemudian dipatahkan Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss! Part 1 pada 2016.[3]

Pada Mei 2022, KKN di Desa Penari berhasil mematahkan rekor film horor Indonesia terlaris sepanjang masa dengan perolehan sedikitnya 6.000.000 penonton per 14 Mei 2022.[4] Jika dirunut sejak tahun 2008, rekor ini sebelumnya disandang Tali Pocong Perawan selama sembilan tahun dengan perolehan 1.082.081 penonton. Pada April 2017, film Danur: I Can See Ghosts berhasil melampaui rekor tersebut dengan 2.736.391 penonton.[5] Rekor tersebut hanya bertahan selama enam bulan sebelum berpindah ke Pengabdi Setan dengan 4.206.103 penonton hingga akhir penayangannya.[6] Butuh waktu hampir lima tahun sebelum rekor tersebut dipecahkan oleh KKN di Desa Penari.

Industri film di Indonesia sempat vakum sepanjang tahun 2020 akibat pandemi Covid-19, sehingga film yang ditayangkan di bioskop hanya pada Januari hingga Maret 2020. Saat itu, film Milea: Suara dari Dilan yang merupakan sekuel kedua dari seri film Dilan menjadi film terlaris pada tahun tersebut dengan 3.122.263 penonton hingga Maret 2020.[8][9] Pada 2021, film Indonesia mulai kembali ditayangkan di bioskop seiring pelonggaran pembatasan sosial yang ditetapkan pemerintah. Film Makmum 2 yang dirilis akhir 2021 sempat menjadi film terlaris yang ditayangkan selama pandemi Covid-19 dengan perolehan 1.762.847 penonton.[10][11] Rekor tersebut dipatahkan tiga bulan kemudian dengan penayangan film Kukira Kau Rumah yang berhasil mencatat perolehan 2.219.265 penonton.[12][13] Penayangan film KKN di Desa Penari sejak akhir April 2022 membuat rekor film terlaris selama pandemi kembali dipatahkan. Hingga 16 Mei 2022, film tersebut ditonton sebanyak 6.000.000 penonton, sekaligus menjadi film Indonesia dengan jumlah penonton terbanyak pada penayangan tahun 2022.[4] Pada 19 Mei 2022, KKN di Desa Penari resmi menggeser posisi Warkop DKI Reborn: Jangkrik Boss! Part 1 yang memegang rekor film Indonesia terlaris sepanjang masa selama hampir enam tahun, dengan meraih sedikitnya 7.000.000 penonton.[14]

Daftar film terlaris di bawah ini disadur dan diurutkan dari situs filmindonesia.or.id berdasarkan jumlah tiket yang terjual di bioskop. Data film terlaris pada tahun 1973 sampai 1994 disusun oleh PT. Peredaran Film Indonesia (disingkat Perfin) dan dipublikasikan kembali oleh situs filmindonesia.or.id berdasarkan jumlah penonton yang berada di Jakarta. Namun, data dari Perfin tidak menyertakan film Indonesia yang terlaris sebelum tahun 1973 dan antara tahun 1995 sampai 2006, sehingga jumlah penonton film Indonesia terlaris pada tahun-tahun tersebut dikumpulkan dari artikel atau publikasi yang terpercaya.[butuh rujukan] 006ab0faaa
