The Kottonmouth Kings, DJ Mixmaster Mike, Beatnuts, Shuvel, Blackalicious and the X-ecutioners are also confirmed for the Asian-American music festival, which is being staged at the National Orange Show Events Center as part of the Chinese New Year celebrations that begin January 24 (this year will be the year of the snake). Organizers said they hope to make the Dragon Festival an annual event.

In addition to his behind-the-scenes work, B-Real will team up with Orlando drum'n'bass outfit AK1200 for a special one-off set inside the festival's "Jade Chamber." MC Supernatural will also step inside the chamber to pair with Los Angeles' DJ Heretic for a joint performance.

"With all our experiences at playing shows and going out on the road with festivals," B-Real said, "we know what fans want to see, and there's nothing really going on in January and February here [in California], so it seemed like a perfect fit."

Aside from the music performances, the Dragon Festival will also feature more typical Chinese New Year and concert festival fare, including acrobats, a fireworks display and a midway village of vendors. Tickets go on sale January 19 via Ticketmaster.

In 2016 the Seattle Park District funded the renovation of the north play area. It features 'tree house' elements, a cable ride, new play equipment, a plaza and interactive information on migratory birds found in Lincoln Park. The park also features inclusive and accessible play elements for all such as a group saucer swing, an accessible cable ride, an accessible sand table, and a small alcove for sensory sensitive children.

Large crowds are expected to turn out for the three-day festival, which begins Thursday. But as excitement builds for the event, now in its sixth year, questions linger about whether the festival will continue to grow.

Linkin Park, a youth-appealing band that still fills stadiums, is set to headline the eight-hour street festival held on Saturday, the final day of the event. While Linkin Park is the biggest act to play the festival, exactly how many people will pay $79 for general admission or $145 for VIP admission to the Saturday festival (or $250 for VIP admission to all events during the full three days) remains to be seen.

Todd Steadman, executive director of the Sunset Strip Business Association, which puts on the festival, notes that past ticket sales indicate that 20 to 25 percent of attendees come from more than 50 miles away, some from the East Coast and even Europe.

In the days following the festival, the city will be analyzing the numbers closely, seeing what else needs to be done to take it to the next level. Arevalo believes they have to weigh getting nationally known name acts, which can expensive and harder to book, against smaller, independent acts, which are easier to book and significantly cheaper.

Overall, residents are enthusiastic about the festival, according to Elyse Eisenberg, head of the West Hollywood Heights Neighborhood Association, which is made up of the streets immediately north of Sunset Boulevard. Any problems residents may have had in the initial years have been dealt with because Steadman and officials have actively been working to address their concerns, Eisenberg said.

As the festival announcements continue to roll out, Los Angeles' Sunset Strip Music Festival has a big name headlining this year's festivities. Linkin Park will top this year's bill, following in the footsteps of the Doors, Motley Crue, Slash and Ozzy Osbourne.

This year's event rolls out from Aug. 1-3, with the final day becoming a street fair featuring the festival's biggest acts. As usual, Sunset Strip clubs the Roxy, Whisky A Go-Go, Viper Room and House of Blues are all filling their stages with a variety of performers throughout the music weekend.

Discounted parking is available for $14 for two hours with validation in the Chicago Historical Museum parking lot off of Stockton Drive. Parking validation cards are available at all entrances to the market.

Medina expressed dismay that corporate sponsorships are less prevalent here than in Europe and Brazil, where a beer company kicked in $20 million to promote a new product at the first Rock in Rio. But he is optimistic that Rock in Rio USA will thrive and is already committed to staging repeat editions of the festival in Las Vegas in 2017 and 2019.

In Las Vegas, Rock in Rio will offer attractions that should help set it apart from Coachella, Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Lollapalooza and the other annual festivals in the U.S. with which it is competing for audiences and top music talent.

Unlike Coachella and Bonnaroo, there will be no camping at Rock in Rio USA. This is because the promoters want to present a more upscale experience and, conveniently, because the festival is within walking distance of 80,000 Las Vegas Hotel rooms. Shuttle bus service passes, priced at $25 per weekend, are available on the festival website.

The Coachella and Stagecoach festivals in Indio, which are both held each April, draw 20 percent of their respective audiences from San Diego County. Rock in Rio USA hopes to draw a sizable portion of attendees from this region as well.
