The single was released on July 29, 1991, two weeks before the release of Metallica.[1] The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in the United States and nine other countries, and sold over 22 million copies worldwide,[21][23] allowing "Enter Sandman" to become, as Chris True describes it, "one of the most recognizable songs of all time in rock".[13] The single peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and at No. 5 on the UK Singles Chart. On September 30, 1991, it became Metallica's second single to achieve gold status in the United States, for shipping more than 500,000 copies.[24] In August 2021, the song re-entered the German Singles Chart at No. 1 after a CD single was re-issued whose profit is set to be donated for charity benefitting the German survivors of the 2021 European floods.[25] In addition to the nominations received by the album as a whole, the song was nominated for Best Rock Song at the 34th Grammy Awards in 1992, ultimately losing to "The Soul Cages" by Sting.[26][27] It was also voted Song of the Year in Metal Edge's 1991 Readers Choice Awards.[28]

Backing Vocals: There's a single voice during the prechorus ("Sleep with one eye open"), a second voice at the start of the chorus ("exit light"), and both of them doing some actual harmony with each other (and the lead) on the "take my hand" bit. The first voice also holds down the low end in the second verse ("dreams of war, dreams of liars...") while the lead voice goes high. Finally, a third voice enters right before the final double-chorus. ("It's just the beast under your bed")

Nathan finds a comatose Audrey and Grayson in the classroom. The sandman is standing in a corner, and Nathan demands to know what happened to Audrey. The Sandman stares at him and then says that he's sorry but Audrey is gone.

But he was nothing like his guest comedian. His humor was so random, so self-deprecating, so vulgar, there was almost no way to contain laughter. Most major inventions during the last 150 years has had 5 to 10 people in different parts of the world claiming it was their idea, and having people around to prove their 'obcession' to the idea too.

It seems as thoughts are never 'original', unless when inventions has been accidental discoveries, such as for instance was the case with penicillin.

Maybe Carl Jung and the ones who claim their right to this poem is just describing what we as well could call 'The common SENSE' (in it's literal meaning). Most people can 'sense' the atmosphere in a room they enter or have experienced that someone they have just been thinking about is calling or mailing them.

It would be interesting to know whether the basic idea of this poem could be found in cultures which are not predominantly Christian. My guess is that there are many variations on the poem/story, with other deities being the supporting part, to be found.
