I'm using Samsung dual messenger for 2 whatsapp numbers. Everything was working perfectly well for a long time, but for the last couple of days I can't connect a secondary whatsapp to web - clicking on "LINK A DEVICE" renders a single red notification-light blink but does not open a QR code scanner. After clicking for a few times it does not blink a red light any more and comes with a message:

"Iris keeps stopping"

Anyone faced this issue that you can't share captured image directly from WhatsApp(error message: sharing failed, please try again!) and you can't find your medias and database files even though your show in gallery option is enabled..? I'm only noticed this today. My primary WhatsApp is working fine. I'm not sure what caused this issue whether it's from WhatsApp update or Samsung dual messenger. I've seen a XDA Thread about the new WhatsApp update that they moved the file location to Android/Media/com.whatsapp/whatsapp

Update 6 - 16/09/2021: As many users reported finally Samsung is rolling out a new software update. Before updating make sure you have a proper backup of your dual WhatsApp including media. Some users are complained about the 'old' media issue which can only be fixed by reinstalling of the dual WhatsApp. So do a google drive backup or via the method I mentioned in Update 5. I have two instances of WhatsApp on my Note8. When I receive a message on my primary WhatsApp, I get notifications instantly as normal. However, on my dual WhatsApp, I don't get notifications unless I open the app.

I've gone to Settings->Notifications and there is only one 'WhatsApp' app listed and notifications are enabled. However, this cannot be where the issue is as the notifications are fine for the primary app, just not the dual app.

However, there is good news for Samsung Galaxy smartphone users, they would not have to face any trouble if they want to run two WhatsApp accounts in their smartphone. The Korean mobile manufacturer has added a new feature known as "Dual Messenger" in their new mobile phone firmware based on the latest Google Android 8.0 Oreo that is making easier for users to install two separate accounts for the same social networking or messenger app.

With this new "Dual Messenger" feature you are able to use and run two separate WhatsApp accounts simultaneously on your same Samsung Galaxy mobile phone. More interestingly, you can also the dual accounts of Facebook, Skype, Snapchat, WeChat, Viber, LINE and more.

It seems Samsung utilizes a separate user profile mechanism for dual messenger apps. To access these apps, we can gather the app list from all user profiles, filtering out the ones we already have. This will leave us with the dual messenger apps that we can then launch using the LauncherApps service.

If you have one of the Galaxy J7 (2017) smartphones (including the India-exclusive Galaxy J7 Max), you can find Dual Messenger in the Settings Advanced features menu, where enabling the feature for each app can be done with a single app. Once enabled, you will see two icons for the app in the app drawer, with a small icon of a linked chain indicating which of the two is the second app. Since the phone treats the two instances as individual apps, you can even use them at the same time in Multi Window mode.

I believe the actual problem is that whatsapp traffic from Samsung Dual Messenger does not pass from VPN because Dual Messenger uses different profile. It's by design and I need Samsung recommendation to see how can I run VPN in profile that Dual Messenger is using.

The reason that I cannot reinstall whatsapp is that I won't be able to use whatsapp backup since it is old. Why? Because whatsapp is blocked here and therefore it can't take backup and upload in Google drive.

Before whatsapp being blocked, I linked my laptop with my whatsapp and after it got blocked, I used VPN on laptop to receive whatsapp messages and read them from browser ( ). A few days ago, whatsapp on my browser asked me to link device again and I stuck because my whatsapp is on Dual Messenger and its traffic does not leave through VPN.
