After the mediocrity of Dragonball Super, Superhero was an giant breath of fresh air of peak Dragonball. It reminded me of why I loved the original and Z series so much as a kid, which this movie perfectly replicates. Characterization and screen time of antagonists and side characters instead of the usual Goku and Vegeta honestly felt really nice and needs to happen more in the Super anime when it comes back. I was skeptical about the CGI, but seeing the animation combined with Toriyama's classic art style is stellar, while still using a lot of modern effects. And I just loved the call back to the Saiyan saga Raditz fight, with Piccolo holding Max Cell and Gohan using the special beam canon. It just felt like pure Dragonball.

But for some reason, and I'm basing this largely off vloggers and Podcasters, people love to include the "dragon ball super" part when they mention super hero, just to follow up with "its such a stupid name/couldn't they think of a better name"

Orange Piccolo was awesome as well. I'm glad Piccolo finally is getting some shine and is becoming one of the top guys again after being on the back burner for so long. The way he rises from the ground with that menacing look and just tanks gamma 2's attacks was cool. I do love Beast Gohan as well and think they are both 2 of the best forms we've gotten in super alongside Ultra instinct but Orange Piccolo was just a different beast to me.

If we're going by the assumption that Goten and Trunks were in High School by the time that Superhero came around, the "growth spurt" thing makes sense. In Dragon Ball, Goku was still super small by the time he was 16 during the 22nd Tournament. Around that time, he'd be around the same age you would be in High School, and it wasn't until the 23rd Tournament that we saw a bigger and older-looking Goku, 3 years later. Maybe staying relatively younger-looking is a Saiyan thing?

Magenta appeals to his sense of superheroics and informs him that they believe Capsule Corporation is serving as the headquarters for a collection of aliens set on world domination themselves, and that the androids and Cell were part of a plan to stop them. He pulls out footage of Freeza vs. Trunks as proof. Carmine plays some triumphant superheroic music on the car stereo to set the atmosphere, and Hedo finally gets on board. He agrees to contribute his research in the hopes of creating the ultimate android superheroes.

Imo, it's some of the best dragon ball content we've seen in years. I really dislike super, but this movie felt like a whole lot like Z to me. I can see why people don't like the animation style, and it had some silly moments like Gohan suddenly regaining all his muscle mass mid fight and then all his power but I don't know how to explain it, it just really felt like it was connecting with Z's routes. Seeing Piccolo and Gohan fight together instead of another movie with Goku and Vegeta was really cool.

After watching super hero I noticed something one of the Gammas said while fighting Piccolo that seemed to retcon how the androids function. He says that androids can operate at full power until they run out of energy. Previously in DBZ and DBS I thought it was established that 17 and 18 had infinite energy and will never get tired. Is this just a difference between the types of androids or are they retconning 17 and 18?

I haven't seen this movie in a year so I forgot a lot of things about it admittedly, but idk how this movie gets praised as a top 1 or top 2 dragon ball movie. Was just curious if anyone else felt the same way I did.

Basically if you don't understand it, Vegeta is implying that the power gap between Jiren and him and Goku isn't that massive as the ToP wanted to portray but that there was more ki control involved and Jiren was able to utilize his ki effectively to godstomp everyone else in the tournament. This is a problem because Jiren has references throughout the entire tournament that this overwhelming power was purely his own, even the Angels and GoDs commented on this. In the movie, Whis confirms Vegeta's claims that Jiren wasn't that above Goku and Vegeta in terms of raw power. Now hold on, in the anime version of the ToP, Whis claims that Jiren is as strong as a GoD and there are multiple references to Jiren being on that level so which is it? Is Jiren just some super strong meathead as strong as the gods? Or is he actually barely above Goku and Vegeta but his ki control is just so great that he's able to wash them?

-The use of the dragonballs was some of the all-time worst in the series. The only consequential wish made was Piccolo wishing for... one particular minor buff from the beginning of DBZ. Again, Piccolo being stupid. Oh, and for some reason, he couldn't access all of the buff that was given to him because...?

I loved the animation and I liked the direction the movie was going in the first half. I liked the characters, I liked the Gammas, and I liked Piccolo's new forms. But as soon as Cell Max was revealed the entire movie just nosedived for me. I had an open mind towards Cell being the main villain, but they handled "Cell" in just about the worst way possible. They just made him a giant hulking monster with no personality to speak of. He's barely even Cell, he's just a random monster made to look like Cell to pander to fans. After that point, the fight became lame and uninspired. I liked that they had Piccolo use his giant form again but it was used in such a super lame way. Then they had Gohan power up by unlocking his new form, by seeing Piccolo get nearly killed... again. Not to mention that Gohan's new form looks awful. At least he used Piccolo's Makankosappo, that was cool. Doesn't save it though. 17dc91bb1f
