Even without that writer hunting down that agent the agent was looking for who are the best writers coming out of these programs or the best writers coming out of a competition. These are the Nicholls finalists. Those scripts get read and those people will be having meetings with the people they think are potentially really good clients.

CRAIG: I like those. Of course, all of them are predicated on you being a good writer and writing a good script, as is always the case, but those all make sense. I actually asked an agent at CAA named Bill Zotti, I gave him a call earlier today and I asked him the question. Of course, he groaned because it was that question, but he had a couple of pieces of really good advice that I figured I should pass along.

This morning, I was rolling around on the bed, gasping for breath from laughing so hard. My husband, Dan, was describing his evening walk around the neighborhood. He had been carrying a flashlight in the darkening night, and, like a moth to (unintentional) flame, the beam of light drew in a young boy riding his tricycle down the street, chubby legs pumping hard to catch up to an oblivious Dan.

Maybe we start with an indulgent smile next time we see a perfect animal meme. Perhaps we sub a morning news watch with a comedy special. Call up a friend for a chat, rather than defaulting to text, where real hilarity is more difficult to sustain. I think the laughter can come if we can make ourselves willing vessels for it.

That’s how it feels to describe most of our moments of side-splitting laughter. There’s some kind of alchemy of timing, expression, and vibe that turns an ordinary moment into something mirth-inducing. You can’t really describe why a moment was so funny. It just was. I had a friend who could crack me up just by looking at me—it was as if we could read the thoughts flying across the other person’s mind, thoughts that definitely should not be uttered aloud in polite company. When our partners asked what the joke was, we shrugged, unable to explain. Hilarity can be inexplicable.

But mostly, the cause of my laugh-less state is that the world is just kinda heavy right now. Sometimes laughter can feel like exercise, in that it requires work. It takes effort to pull our minds from the doom, and into a space that’s a little more lighthearted; less protective, and more vulnerable. Joy is one thing. It isn’t necessarily easy to come by for everyone, especially those in deep struggle, but joy is somewhat more accessible. Hilarity is quite another gift.

That old adage about laughter being the best medicine is no joke. There are documented health benefits to laughter, such as a reduction of stress, promotion of endorphins, and renewal of social connection. Articles sometimes encourage silly dance parties or improv comedy classes—the latter being an activity more likely to induce abject fear than LOLs in me.

But the thing I love about the kind of howling-in-your-seat laughter I’m talking about is that element of surprise. While I can get behind the practice of actively searching for joy in our daily lives, part of what makes a good laugh session so satisfying is its unplanned nature. It just … happens to you. For me, the best kinds of laughs are summoned by twin elves, Goofiness and Delight, sneaking up on you at the moment when you least expect them.

But now that laughter feels rarer and less accessible, I find that the thing I miss the most is the perspective I get after a good peal of merriment. Even if every single thing has gone wrong in my day, the fact that I am still able to see some humor in it lets me shift my thinking. Sometimes it’s an infinitesimal shift that forces me to close down my computer and stop myself from sending an email I’ll regret. Laughter will allow me some much-needed psychic distance between strong emotions like anger or anxiety. Other times, laughing will pull me out of a myopic mindset and allow me to discover a surprising solution I might have missed. Humor gives me a reminder that the world might not be quite as bleak as I think it is.

In a 2020 New York Times article, cardiologist Dr. Michael Miller of the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore prescribed: “one good belly laugh a day.” The article goes on to clarify, “It’s not just going ‘ha, ha,’ but a ‘deep physiological laugh that elicits tears of joys and relaxation.’” So, given that we know most of us need more laughter in our lives, can we just … make ourselves laugh more? Not exactly. But we can exercise the muscle in small ways, and hope for the best.

An infectious agent is something that gets you sick. An infectious illness is one that spreads by an infectious agent entering the body. A contagious illness is one that is spread by coming into contact with someone who is sick (who is infected with an infectious agent).

All contagious diseases are also infectious because if you can catch it from someone then their germs (viruses or bacteria) are being passed to you. But not all infectious diseases are also contagious. Infectious illnesses are spread by an infectious (=infection causing) agent (such as a virus or bacteria) entering the body, but some infectious illnesses, such as food poisoning, cannot be spread to another person.

For example, a cold is contagious and infectious: an infectious agent (e.g. a cold virus) enters the body and is passed to other people by contact (e.g. shaking hands or kissing). Food poisoning is only infectious: an infectious agent (e.g. bacteria) enters the body but you cannot spread food poisoning to other people.

As it just so happens, Kristiana and I both have the same literary agent, which of course means that we have to be buddies now. So, I was able to interview Kristiana for this blog, and her responses are just as laugh-out-loud hilarious as her book!

Will introduces himself to Abigail as an FBI special agent, and Freddie is like Psh, FBI special agent, yeah right, and Hannibal is like you are naughty, Miss Lounds (actual dialogue, I SWEAR) and have overstayed your welcooome. Freddie tries to give Abigail her business card before she leaves, but Will snatches it out of her hand using his super special agent (but not REAL FBI) speed skills.

A TikToker says a Southwest Airlines agent was leaning her knee on the baggage scale, making his luggage go over the maximum weight limit. The incident is sparking a debate in the comments on whether or not it was an accident.

For returning players - reactions now work over time. In general reaction rate is tied to temperature and in some cases the presence of an optional catalyst. In general Purity is tied to the purity of your reagents, and how far away from optimal your pH is. It's important to note that the basic reaction is a one size fits all while each reaction is updated over a batch of updates, so it's unlikely that they'll cause too much trouble for you. Keep your pH within 5-9 and bare in mind most reactions are exothermic now meaning they generate heat when reacting, dangerous when using certain explosive chemicals opposite is for endothermic reactions. Meth has been tweaked - and it's a tad more dangerous, since it becomes more exothermic the less pure it is and meth explodes if it gets to 380k so be careful out there Walter!.

Every chemical has an innate pH, which can be seen by pressing the cog on the dispenser. The pH of the beaker is the sum of the pHes in the mix. The pH of a beaker determines how pure a product is, for the recipes with a given pH, you want to have your pH at the centre of the limits when the reaction starts. As a reaction progresses, it's likely the pH will begin to drift, and must be compensated for either with buffer reagents or acidic/alkaline compounds. The pH range is something chemists often have to learn over several reactions, and the ChemMaster 3000 analyse function can give an insight into what pH you should be aiming for (Not in yet). Highly impure compounds are liable to affect your reaction too thus it is prudent to set your pH before reacting, as an overly impure reaction will drag the purity down of all other reagents with it.

Purity of a reagent is determined by how pure your reactants were, and how optimal the pH was during the reaction. If the product is slightly impure it'll split into the impure chem. 100% pure reagents will not split. If it is highly impure it will invert all of the product into the inverse chem (the percentage thresholds are given on the reagent's entry). If the reaction's purity is below the unstable purity, and the reaction has a failed chem, it will be replaced by that chem at the end of the reaction. Purity also can have an effect on a reagent's performance too which is detailed in the description. To clarify, here's an example case: 006ab0faaa
