A bulk loader actually holds 150FT. of film. I know this because I have purchased 150ft. and it works perfect. I have also ordered 500 ft of the 5222 Double X film, it helps to have 4 100 ft. rolls and cans with some either gaffers tape or black electrical tape on hand to seal the film cans. If you have used bulk loading in the past as I have, you become accustom to working in the pitch black darkness and spooling off 100 ft of film at a time is pretty easy. Take some time but, easy enough. I really like the way Double X shoots and the Remjet is really easy to remove after you process the film if most of it hasn't already disolved. I think you will have this film very useful for many applications.

I do this all the time for movie film... I just spool off 100 feet or so, and put that in the bulk loader... as another poster mentioned, two nails on a board can make the spooling go reasonably well if you don't have movie crank spoolers (called re-winders)(can be found on e-bay)

Yes, nobody is doing this any more, but I took off 15 or so years of shooting film, then inherited a Leica M3 from a friend, and started using film again, found all my developing stuff in the attic, when I was going to load my first steel reel in the 15 years I was a little apprehensive, but as I said it is muscle memory. When we taught newbees we would give them a roll of film and a reel, send them home with it, in a day or two they were all set. I worked in a lab that had Patterson tanks for a little while, I got it down to having to clip the lead corners of the film, for me too much scissor work in the dark.

With the discussion of loading film reels, I looked into my darkroom parts graveyard (which is a large plastic storage container in the garage) and found some interesting developing film reels. There were the very beginner Kodak apron reels which are simple plastic rolls with dimples on the edges to keep the film separated when you wrap the film with the apron. The problem was that the dimples left edge spots of the film undeveloped.

Then I have a selection of plastic reels, one with the ball bearing ratchet loading, the others you load with pushing the film manually. The trick in loading plastic reels is that they had to be absolutely dry otherwise the friction will prevent complete loading.

The most interesting reels were a variety of stainless reels. I have so many because I remember buying a lot when local camera shops were closing down in the 1980s, shutting down altogether or just getting rid of their darkroom department. I purchased them pennies on the dollar. Thus I have many reels that I have never used.

The most interesting steel reels are the Kindermann reels that had an automatic loader. You simply attached the loader to the reel, push the film through a device that put the right curve on the film, attach it to the easy clip and turn the crank. By far this was the easiest system to load 120 film.

The center clip is what separated the good steel reels from the bad. The Kindermann center clip had an easy opening with a retaining spike to secure the film. The loader guided the film directly to the clip opening.
