Thanks - that is super useful. Not being able to record in the background actually makes this feature more important, since for many enumerators the old method of recording with another app in the background while using Collect to administer the interview would no longer work.

So, if having audio recording in the background is an Android Limitation, would that background execution be possible in the case of other types of widgets, more specifically, would this background procedure be possible for GPS data (lines)?

I believe the major change that would need to happen to implement this feature would be to record sound natively within Collect--rather than depending on an external app such as RecForge. This means this change could apply for the existing per-question recordings as well as the future background recording feature. Some thoughts on the implication:

Thanks to all who helped shape built-in audio recording, especially @Tino_Kreutzer and Ignacio who contributed to the visual design of the feature. Built-in recording is available in Collect v1.29 and ready to be leveraged for background audio capture.

We intend to build a first version of background audio capture for Collect v1.30 which will enable recording an entire form filling session as a single audio file. Examples of future additions would include configuring a subset of questions to record and configuring a probability that any given form filling session is recorded.

I have an application that uses location services in the background. Works fine.But what I want to do, at a certain point, is to check some audio levels while the application is in the background. For some reason it doesn't seem to work. When running in foreground, the function works fine, but when in the back ground, the audio recorder average and peak input is always -120..

Currently, the only supported way to record in the background on an iOS device is to include audio for the UIBackgroundModes key in the app's plist, enable an appropriate Audio Session for recording, and start recording (or playing) audio before the app goes into the background.

I dont think iPhone will allow recording in the background. Only few services are allowed when the app goes into background. Logically if your app stays into background for a long time it would then consume a lot of battery as well as buffer to store audio, unless you have time and memory managed these resources. This would also pose issues for your app when you submit it to the App Store.

There is an app I know of that has background recording. Beatmaker 2. You need to turn run in the background on in the settings of device under beatmaker 2. In beatmaker create an audio track and start recording. Them use the home button on device to exit app but its still recording. You can get creative with different interfaces as well. I do this to feed the iPhone 4 line out into an audio track in beatmaker 2. You can record the audio of anything playing in the foreground. (YouTube videos apps music from your iTunes library. You can edit the waves also after recorded.

I have a professor, using a Macbook, who tried to use Studio but it only recorded the background of the desktop. No foreground, no active window, just a shot of the background. Anyone else experiencing this issue with Macbooks?

I know this thread is kind of old, so I don't know if people are still having this issue but it is 100% enabling recorder in your security & privacy settings. I had this happen yesterday & today w/recorder just recording the background on my new iMac. I had been recording on my older iMac all year with no issues. Even though I transferred everything over, the recorder was unchecked. You then have to make sure to quit recorder and go back in and then it should work.

Is Panopto planning to get rid of the native Windows recording program? I am not sure this is a good strategy, the browser capture recording is very clumsy and not informative. Panopto should have a program that remains in the system tray while recording with indicators for volume and recording, etc. The capture recording is not very intuitive for most users, it always starts with the infinite loop video when the camera is on and it does not support the hot buttons (F8 and F10) to seamlessly start and stop a recording. I hope Panopto can get their act together in the recording area and have a single recorder that will provide all the capabilities users have come to expect from a screen capture recording program.

I'm sure the Web recorder will be improved through time, though. I notice that with good lighting, browser choice, and good internet bandwidth, the web recorder is excellent. We recommend the web recorder for faculty who have a hard time with technology. We have found the web version intuitive. We have customized our instructions, but Panopto has great text and video guides (I especially like their tutorials that incorporate both text and video instructions).

I think maybe Panopto could change the "stop button" icon. The only recommendation I have for the Panopto recorder is to add a "PAUSE" BUTTON". I've already seen great improvements in Panopto Capture since the Beta version, and now of courses with backgrounds. Backgrounds look great if you have good lighting, and now one can upload a background image.

Ok, I know that panopto capture in web browser recorder will support blurred background (for camera view) or a virtual background, thats excellent. But as this forum notes, there isnt an equivalent for the Panopto Recorder Application. I have a lecturer who wants to webcast his lecture and record it with a blurred or virtual background which I dont think is possible right now as its my belief that webcast only works with the panopto application, which of course doesnt have the blurred/virtual background feature. I dont see a way of webcast a panopto capture session or maybe i havent looked closely enough at it; with the panopto recorder application you would have set up your panopto waiting room sessionholder in advance and then once you launch your panopto application recorder, you choose your webcast placeholder session and begin to record and webcast. There maybe workarounds to this using other apps to webstream whoile recording with panopto webcast with blurred background but they seem awkward and confusing to students on where the recording is. Anyone got any ideas how to deal with this query or managed to find a way to do what the lecturer requires above?

getComputedStyle().backgroundColor, instead of getComputedStyle().background-color will get you the value of the background-color of the element.

To adjust the length of background recordings, go to Start > Settings > Gaming > Captures. Under Background recording, with Record in the background while I'm playing a game turned On, select the time period for Record the last [time period].

If the memory cards are inserted into two card slots, set the background recording mode and then press the REC button to start recording simultaneously on card slot 1 and card slot 2. On card slot 1, recording can be repeatedly started and stopped as necessary by operating the REC button. On card slot 2, the recording operation continues as background recording.

In the background recording mode, standard recording can be performed on card slot 1 if a memory card for recording is not inserted in card slot 2 or the remaining recording capacity of the memory card in card slot 2 has run out.

I use a mackbook Air. I have installed Activepresenter 8. While screen record of record software simulation only the desktop background with mouse pointer movement is recorded. I can not record anything playing on the screen.
