From a Project Management perspective, i want to show the rag status of a project as red, green, amber. I thought it might be some permission issues with the image file in the path "~/.cache/plasmashell/plasma_engine_potd/image_provider_name(like bing)" (like it might have permission like -rw-------), in which case the sddm (and i thought it might run as root) cannot read the file, but the permission were right (-rw-r--r--).

I'm using Plasma 5.19.5 (the lastest version) but the issue is still there. Exactly the same as yours. Fine running from the terminal but white background when actually logging in. Did you solve it bro?

I think it was fixed (atleast for me) in 5.16. Since then I haven't used SDDM for login. I use the plain old linux terminal for login and then start plasma from there. You can ask in the kde subreddit. I think the current version 5.20 lockscreen doesn't work with setting symoblic link as the background. I used to have a single symbolic file pointing to the Picture of the day wallpaper and use the symbolic file in the lockscreen as it's background. Now it doesn't work in 5.20. For now I have also used the Picture of the day for the both lockscreen and desktop wallpaper.
