Managing international education exchange programs in the Western Hemisphere since its earliest days of operation, IIE has over the past 90 years opened additional offices throughout the United States and Latin America to serve this region.

IIE has had a presence in Sub-Saharan Africa that spans over 30 years, and implements a range of programs to build leadership capacity and expand access to higher education in the region. With its office in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, and extensive history working in the region, IIE has a strong set of programs in leadership development, organizational effectiveness, and higher education scholarship administration.

Working closely with businesses, governments, and non-governmental organizations in the South and Central Asia region, IIE has developed and implemented a strong set of activities in higher education scholarship administration, leadership development, and critical development fields, including energy.

Education, broadly defined, is valuable for teaching children the social, emotional, and cognitive skills needed to function in society. Formal education is thought to facilitate social learning, build executive functioning skills, and allow children to explore subjects they may not naturally be exposed to. Informal education typically allows them to cultivate their own interests and learn self-direction, itself an important life skill.

Ideally, in the modern world, education will teach both the technical skills needed for future success and cultivate the critical thinking abilities that allow humans to creatively approach problems, engage new perspectives, and innovate in an ever-changing world. Whether the current system of formal education does that effectively, however, is a source of great debate among the public and policymakers alike.

Each term of service for which an individual earns an education award counts as one term of service in computing the term limitations. This includes terms for which a member earns a full-time, half-time, and any other type part-time or prorated education award. A prorated education award is an award that may be earned when an individual, for reasons beyond his or her control, cannot complete the entire service period. Generally, if a member is released before completing a term of service and does not receive the education award, that term counts as one of the terms served.

Effective April 1, 2021, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) no longer counts the use of Veteran Readiness & Employment (VR&E) benefits (chapter 31) against the 48-month limit on GI Bill education benefits such as the Post-9/11 GI Bill. The Journal of Graduate Medical Education is seeking submissions related to climate and graduate medical education (GME) for a journal supplement to be published in 2024. On October 28, 2009, the Department published in the Federal Register, final regulations regarding Institutions and Lender Requirements Relating to Education Loans, to implement requirements relating to education loans that were added to the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended (HEA) by the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (HEOA). The Secretary also amends the regulations for Student Assistance General Provisions, the Federal Perkins Loan (Perkins Loan) Program, the Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) Program, and the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program to implement certain provisions of the HEA that involve school-based loan issues and that were affected by the statutory changes made to the HEA by the HEOA. These regulations are effective July 1, 2010.

ASH support hematologists' commitment to lifelong learning through a variety of activities that offer CME credit and maintenance of certification (MOC) points.

This yearlong education and mentoring program for hematology fellows and junior faculty at academic medical centers offers education on clinical research methods, research collaborations, statistical analysis, and managing the demands of family and career.

This yearlong program, which includes a webinar series and in-person workshop, develops future leaders in hematology education by providing a "boot camp" in teaching techniques, medical education scholarship, and career development.

Together with Health Volunteers Overseas (HVO), a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving global health through education, ASH brings invaluable consultation and training to hospitals in low-and middle-income countries.
