A DAV file is a video created by DVR365 digital video recorders. It stores videos in an encrypted format, so most video players do not support DAV format. How do you open DAV files? You can try the following DAV players to play DAV files.

Amcrest Smart Play is a professional DAV file player. You can use it to play DAV videos and convert DAV to other video formats such as MP4, AVI, etc. This DAV player is available for Windows and macOS.

Have you checked to see if there is a proprietary codec involved or needed?

At a previous employer I had to download and install one from the manufacturer website to not only export but to play on any device that didn't have the DVR player installed on it. Also had to provide the codec to LEO on one occasion when they were investigating something our cameras picked up.

(You had to provide the serial number of your DVR to download... really!)

It does by default want to go to a DAV format and then you can view that with it's player. However, this wasn't a problem the last times we tried to export. We used to be able to export and play in default Windows Players, upload to Microsoft Stream or import into video editors. None of that works now...I can see in the same export directories of videos we exported in the past and it works perfectly. Only these recent ones are having issues.

Thank you again for the info but what is frustrating is that we have 5 Amcrest DVR's and all but this one can export to MP4 and playback perfectly and it did just months ago. It is just this single DVR that is corrupting the video conversions. Even the DAV files will not play in the DAV players or codecs. This one DVR used to easily export/convert to MP4 or AVI but all video is corrupted coming from this DVR.

I just tested all of our Amcrest DVR's and 4 of them easily saved as MP4 or AVI and played back perfectly. The one in question did before but no longer does.

I did look to see if I can save DAV files as DECRYPTED and had no option.

If you used a DVR365 or CCTV camera to record a video, that video was probably saved as a .dav file. DAV file types save videos in an encrypted format using modified MPEG compression. Because DAV files are encrypted, popular media and MPEG players and editing programs can't play or edit the files, which can make working with DAV file formats a huge headache. The solution is to convert the DAV files to a format that is more user-friendly by downloading one of the programs out there that can open and manipulate DAV files.

In addition to desktop operating systems, this DAV file viewer and player is also supported by mobile platforms including Windows Phone, Windows 10 Mobile, Android, iOS, and iPadOS. VLC is one of the most popular and useful media players.

5KPlayer is also a popular and free video file player and converter. It allows users to convert DAV to MP4, AVI, and FLV so that they can upload the video to YouTube, Facebook, and other online sites.

Whether you're keeping an eye on your kids, pets, or safeguarding your premises with CCTV surveillance cameras, chances are you'll end up with a bunch of video files in .dav format. But disappointedly, you can't just pop them open with the usual media players like Windows Media Player, VLC, Movies & TV app, or QuickTime, as you would with other video files. So, how do you crack open those DAV files? In this piece, we've rounded up the top 6 DAV file players that help you open and play DAV videos smoothly on Windows PC and Mac.

DAV file (.dav) is a video file created by a DVR365 digital video recorder, which incorporates modified MPEG compression and is saved in an encrypted format. Thus most video players do not support DAV format.

Amcrest cameras are mostly compatible with CameraFTP's cloud recording service. There is one minor issue: Amcrest records video clips in a proprietary video format of .DAV. The cloud recording feature works just fine, but .DAV video type cannot be played in CameraFTP Viewer or any popular video player such as Windows Media Player or VLC Player. You must install Amcrest Smart Player, and download the recorded footage to your local PC to play the video clips.

Note: Amcrest cameras upload video clips in .DAV format, which is a proprietary format incompatible with most of video players. CameraFTP browser based viewer and mobile viewer apps cannot play it. Uploading image snapshots will be a better choice. To upload video clips, you can use CameraFTP VSS on a PC. These cameras are compatible with VSS-based Live View, Cloud Recording and Local Recording. If you use VSS for video recording, it is important to set the correct video size, frame rate and bit rate in Video Profile Settings.

Also, there are some DAV file players over there, which can play and convert this sort of videos to AVI format. You can download the default DAV file player provided by the company which produces the cameras that record the videos as DAV format. As far as I know, you can take DVR365 Player Software, Dahua Smart Player, Amcrest Smart Player and more. Here's an example: -us/articles/206649037-Amcrest-Smart-Player-1080P-HD-CVI-
