Sound
In Salt and Pepper, we had a dedicated sound designer on set throughout the entire shoot – not to enhance the experience for hearing viewers, but to translate the visual experience of sign language into sound.
As a CODA, he had a clear understanding of what should and should not be heard: the sound of movement, emotion, fabric, a fist on a table – all elements that express feelings without spoken words.
The goal was not to "add" for the hearing, but to make deaf expression felt through sound – something not everyone hears, but most can feel.
He also leads the music production, with the same philosophy: emotion-driven, body-based, and true to the deaf experience.
Salt and Pepper will not be dubbed – sign language is shown in its pure, visual form: hands, faces, bodies, and raw emotion.
