A North Bay Village, Florida-based radiologist and military veteran, Douglas N. Hornsby, MD, served as a combat medic with the US Army from 1967 to 1973, during which time he received several awards for valor including the Silver Star, Bronze Star with V device and Air Medal with V Device. Douglas N. Hornsby, MD, founded Helping Hands Nursing, Inc., in 1979 and grew the at-home nursing company for hospice patients to feature 16 offices across six states before selling it in 1991.
Dr. Hornsby shifted his focus to radiology in the late 1990s and completed a diagnostic radiology residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in 2001, followed by fellowships at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School and The Rutherford Fellowship and the American College of Radiology.. He subsequently launched Digital Radiology, Inc., a multi-state teleradiology services company, where he continues to serve as president. Dr. Hornsby is the former Chairman of Radiology at South Shore Hospital, Miami Beach. Since 2010, he has acted as director of radiology at Douglas Gardens Hospital in Miami, Florida.
Complementing his radiology experience, Dr. Hornsby has held positions with multiple medical organizations including the President of the Florida Radiology Society. and delegate to the Florida Medical Association and Dade County Medical Association. Dr. Hornsby has served on the Florida Board of Medicine. The Douglas N. Hornsby, MD award Leadership Award has been presented by the Florida Radiological Society since 2004.
In addition to professional groups, he serves the board of directors for the Optimist Club in North Bay Village is a member of the Miami Beach Kiwanis Club and the Miami Shores Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Hornsby is former City Commissioner and current Chairman of the Planning and Zoning Board.
