For the 2024-25 academic year, I am serving as Director of Competitions for the Mathematical Association of America (MAA). In this position I will lead the staff who execute the various levels of the American Mathematics Competition (Grade 8, Grade 10, Grade 12, layers of invitational exams, the preparation, selection and support for the US team that competes in the annual International Mathematics Olympiad, and the annual Putnam Competition for undergraduate students.
Sure, I'm retired from teaching but I'm not dead yet. I am still involved in many aspects of the mathematics community, so if you think I can help with a project you are working on, let's talk. Here are some things I am currently doing for one project or another:
Grant writing and administration. I am particularly familiar with programs within the NSF Division of Undergraduate Education, and I have a great deal of experience running national programs, especially through the MAA.
Teaching-focused professional development. I believe that professional development for mathematics instructors and administrators is an effective way to scale up our knowledge about effective practices for teaching and learning.
Educational technology. Because of the fate of Adobe Flash, I don't have as much to show for myself as I otherwise would, but here are some HTML/JS-based interactions for Discrete Math developed with Winston Crawley. My current passion in this area is creating technological supplements to Open Education Resources.
Data analytics. Over the course of my career, I have developed expertise with Python / R / SQL in the context of higher education administration.
