Dorrigo is a small town located on a plateau to the west of Coffs Harbour. It is about 65 km by road from Coffs Harbour and about 130 km by road to Armidale. The road linking these towns is known as Waterfall Way, reflecting the spectacular waterfalls along its route. It takes about six hours travel by road to reach either Sydney or Brisbane.
Dorrigo Plateau is a centre for dairying and fattening of cattle. A major tourist attraction is Dorrigo National Park, with its World Heritage-listed Gondwanan rainforest.
The township is vibrant with numerous cafes and gift shops as well as a post office, two supermarkets, a heritage hotel, two primary schools and a high school. There is a modern medical centre, pharmacy and hospital with aged care facilities. A tennis club, oval, squash club and swimming pool cater for sports activities and the library is always busy.
Major events in the township are the Easter Arts Exhibition, Misty Mountain Getaway craft workshop, the Dorrigo Folk and Bluegrass Festival and the Dorrigo and Guy Fawkes Agricultural Show. There are monthly markets and three times a year a special Made In Dorrigo Market is held in the town centre.
