What is ocean circulation and what does it mean?
It is the different ways that our ocean(s) move. We were taught that they are many ocean basins, such as the pacific and the atlantic. But they are all connected and only 1 ocean, therefore there are different ways the ocean moves.
Put simply, the Coriolis Effect makes things (like planes or currents of air) traveling long distances around Earth appear to move at a curve as opposed to a straight line.
This makes air in the nothern hemisphere rotate clockwise and the air in the southern hemipshere roate countrerclock wise.
Parts of the ocean have more salt in them then others. The red areas have a higher salt concentration compared to the area
The students will learn that the ocean is satly and has different salinty. Since the ocean is salty it means that it can make things float that woldnt normally float.
For this experiment they will have a contrl group of just water in a cup and they will put plstic beads in it. Then they will use a cup of water with 15g of salt mixed in, and then put the same amoubnt of plastic beads in it and see what happens.
Because the salt water is more dense, the salt water is able to make things float. This is why large objects are able to float in the ocean and also feel lighter.
