My Core Beliefs and Values About Teaching
All students can learn
All students that come into class can learn.
This influences my confidence as a teacher and my caring for students' learning (it also helps me be able to decide what things I specifically want students to take away from class).
All students are different
Each student will have different backgrounds and ideas to bring to class.
This influences my ability to teach all students even though they come from different backgrounds and help them have the same access to knowledge despite their differences.Â
Not all students think or believe the things I think or believe
Students and I might disagree on some things, but that is okay.
This influences how I respectfully treat students' beliefs and viewpoints, even if they contradict mine.
All students are continuously forming beliefs about the world
What I teach helps students shape how they see the world.
This influences me to remember that I always need to be an example and help students develop their ideas about the world through my teaching.
It is my responsibility to help my students succeed
If students aren't succeeding in class, I am probably not doing something right as the teacher.
This influences how I care about student success and the measures I will take to make sure that students succeed.
Learning should be fun
I should make class enjoyable for students in order to foster their learning.
This influences how I plan lessons and how I care about students learning to love learning and teaching.
