June 21st was the Chinese summer solstice. Markham welcomed the annual Celebrate Markham event with a beautiful sunny day and flowers in early summer. The event was held at the New Power Studio on Bentley St., Markham, and attracted thousands of people of all ethnicities."Celebrate Markham is an annual event sponsored and funded by the City of Markham for the benefit of the local Chinese community. Since its inception, the event has been held annually, aiming to enrich the retirement life of the community's seniors, enhance multicultural integration, and reflect the prosperity of the city. It can be regarded as a major initiative of the local government to benefit the people.This celebration was planned and organized by Ms. Zhang Xiaoyan, a well-known cultural figure and senior public welfare volunteer, and received the usual attention and support from the City of Markham.Logan Kanapathi, Member of Parliament for Ontario, Frank Scarpitti, Mayor of Markham, Michael Chan, Deputy Mayor of Markham, Alan Ho, Councillor for Ward 2, Amanda Yeung Collucci, Councillor for Ward 6, and Ritchie Ritchie, Councillor for Ward 2. City Councillor Ritch Lau was present at the event and presented a letter of congratulations, expressing his support for the community's cultural development.
