Joyce Carol Oates - Running and Writing Essay

With many recent books available on Joyce Carol Oates and her writing, there is some confusion about whether or not she was really a postmodernist poet. It is, of course, true that she was influenced by the postmodernist movement, which represents a point of view in which literature is less critical of itself and more attentive to social issues and society in general.

While not all of the famous postmodern poets are in the position of being considered postmodernists, a number of notable ones have written about some aspect of life under capitalism. Among these writers are Virginia Woolf, Christopher Isherwood, and Derek Walcott.

As far as I am concerned, Joyce Carol Oates's writing has not been placed under the category of postmodernism, but can be defined as a direct comment on contemporary society. Her essays are quite funny, poignant, and insightful, which is why they have endured the test of time.

There are no published poetry collections about Joyce Carol Oates, though it is widely assumed that she was associated with the British poets Lowell Thomas and Robert C. Oates, and was quite involved in the movement known as 'altarpieces'. As the United States is a completely different place today than it was in the 1930s, it is difficult to accept that the same type of expression could still be in use today.

Joyce Carol Oates will always remain one of the most successful poets of the twentieth century, but the controversy surrounding her work seems to stem from her homosexuality. She would not be regarded today as a homosexual, but many believe that her sexuality may have had a direct influence on her work.

If there is one thing that Joyce Carol Oates was right about, it was in her work as a writer. Her work is poetic and unforgettable, and her poems never fail to make us stop and think.
