SCMS division delivers C5ISR solutions to Navy, other DoD, and other federal agencies on small and large craft, commercial and militarized vehicles, and mobile communications centers. Provides design, assembly, installation, and C5ISR solutions for special operations and embarked personnel. I supported SCMS as a mechanical engineer and would read, interpret and redline various types of engineering drawing packages as well as reverse engineer various parts in order to redesign. Below I have listed all of my periods of time spent during the internship and what I learned and performed during those periods.
Technical Documentation
I worked with a full aircraft engineering package and learned to read and navigate a document of that size and complexity.
Attention to Detail
I reviewed the Weight and Balance table for discrepancies, helping create an update package.
Reverse Engineering and 3D Modeling
I reverse-engineered and modeled objects.
Technical Documentation
I worked through the cable drawing package for the E-6 Mercury and traced specific cables through the entire package.
Analysis and Verification
I calculated the lengths of those cables from the drawings so they could be compared against the physical cables on the aircraft.
Field Data Collection
I traveled to Tinker AFB to take physical measurements of the cables and compare them with the calculated lengths.
Installation and Hands-On Experience
I shadowed an installation team as they routed, installed, and removed cables on the aircraft, and performed some of these tasks myself.
Leadership and Project Management
I shadowed the team lead and saw the task from his point of view, including manning costs, coordination, and oversight.
Reverse Engineering and 3D Modeling
I reverse-engineered and modeled objects.
