Ocean Diver - Ongoing with theory & pool sessions completed, 4 students have passed Congratulations to the 4.
Your instructor will start by getting you comfortable breathing underwater in a pool or sheltered water and then develop your skills so that you are competent to dive safely in open water. After that you’ll head out for a series of at least four dives to develop your skills and confidence in open water.
On your open water diving course, you’ll:
Learn how to use basic dive gear, including your mask and snorkel.
Control your buoyancy and underwater movements
Understand your basic scuba diving safety skills – you’ll find out the importance of time, depth and gas
Discover how to plan and manage your diving.
The ocean diver course includes six theory modules, at least five sessions in a pool or sheltered water, and at least four open-water dives.
Our ocean diver course is continually assessed. So, after your classroom and in-water training and a short theory exam, you’ll have the grounding to continue your scuba diving journey as an open water diver.
Wreck Diver - Ongoing with theory completed and pool sessions ongoing
DSAC will shortly run a Skill Development Course on wreck diving. This 2-day course covers both theory and practical sessions.
The course teaches divers to dive wrecks safely by understanding:
Basic wreck construction and deterioration
The dangers presented by wrecks
The practical skills necessary for using shot lines and distance lines safely
The practical skills needed for effective line laying
Planning considerations for wreck diving
Boat Handling - Completed
We will also be running a boat handling course that qualifies you to RYA - Level 2.
This course is also a mixture of classroom theory and offshore practical sessions.
Topics covered include:
Familiarisation with a boat and its equipment, including a ‘walk around’
Owner and driver responsibilities
Boat handling basics
Voyage planning considering the weather, tides, and local area
Sheltered water handling
Open water handling, including man overboard drills
Anchoring and diving, the ability to safely drop and recover divers at a dive site
Dive Leader Course (~10 weeks) - In Progress with theory and O2 completed practical sessions started
Dive Leader has three core elements; leading inexperienced and experienced divers, dive management, and rescue management.
The formal learning consists of five assessed theory modules, five open-water training dives and three practical lessons. For divers who need refresher training, or those coming from another agency, there are also optional practical and theory lessons to ensure you are ready to progress.
It is essential that Dive Leaders have adequate experience so before gaining the qualification you’ll need to have at least 60 dives in variety of conditions relevant to your local environment.
