"Maintain in your heart all that makes you who you are." - CB
A mirror shows us the surface level of our identities. Our eyebrows, our noses, our shoulders, our bodies, our image. A mirror cannot show us what's inside, the core of who we are. This play has wonderfully complex characters navigating who they are, new pieces of their identities, and parts of themselves they aren't sure about. Embracing and navigating the entirety of our malleable, ever-changing identities is not easy and doesn't happen all at once.
The dog house on the left is a place to release any part of your identity that may hold weight right now. Something you are thinking about recently, something you did, something you haven't told anyone, something that is confusing you. Anything. Write it down, drop it in there, and begin the conversation with yourself. It doesn't have to be a conversation with the world. It's between you and yourself. All submissions into the red doghouse are anonymous and remain for your eyes only.
The dog bowl on the right is there to hold affirmations to open up these conversations. Write down something you love about yourself, something you adore about someone else, something kind to say to yourself, something thoughtful for a stranger, a loving message. Address it to a generic 'you', and leave it in the bowl. On the way out, feel free to take one out of the bowl, a reminder of the kindness in the world, and the beauty of your identity.
