To lure victims into his car, he would act as an authority figure, fake an injury, or pretend to be disabled. Women would feel obligated to obey the authority figure or help the poor man in need, which was a fatal mistake.
Acting as an authority figure, injured, or disabled caused his victims to feel safer around him. The women were socialized to believe that these people are not dangerous or suspicious.
As proven by this experiment, people with dogs are perceived as friendlier or less suspicious. However, this is not necessarily true.
A serial killer could take advantage of society's perception of dogs. They could use a dog to be seen as kind and lovable by their victims. A dog would make it easier to gain the victims' trust and get them alone.
Dogs are just one example. There are hundreds of societal norms and views that can be used against you in the long run. The more you are aware of how society's views are affecting your perception of people, the safer you will be.
A lot of hard work and effort was put into this experiment and it would be greatly appreciated if you'd be able to leave a comment for me about your thoughts on it! Click here to leave a comment. Thank you!
