This triaxial cell is a TruePath Automated Stress Path System, which is GEOTAC’s most advanced apparatus incorporating state of the art in data acquisition and feedback control. A TruePath system consists of a Sigma-1 load frame, two DigiFlow pressure volume actuators (flow pumps), and a high-resolution analog data acquisition system all connected to a computer through TestNet. This apparatus is mainly used in this project to determine the gas and liquid permeability of the clay-barrier materials at different confinements.
This GEOTAC truePath system has been adapted to conduct gas permeability tests at different confinements in compacted MX80 specimens.
The sample is progressively saturated in a controlled manner by means of a circuit that has been incorporated to apply controlled suctions using the vapor transfer technique.
Soil-membrane gas migration issues are controlled by applying a cell pressure.
