The Fly Trap is probably my longest running project. Initially created in 2020, the story followed Elizabeth and Nathan, two people who, against all real world logic, aged really really slowly. The story followed their adventures as they navigated the modern world and avoided being detected by scientists that would, no doubt, want to figure out the secret to eternal life, no matter what it took.
The story was mostly inspired by Matt Haig's novel 'How To Stop Time,' a story which, if you know me even just a little, you know has inspired me massively! (I even have a tattoo dedicated to it!) But over time, as I read more and experimented with other ideas, this story was put on the back burner.
It wasn't until 2023 that I picked the story back up again, and experimented with a form more similar to that of 'How To Stop Time,' showing fragments of the characters lives throughout time. This idea quickly got too big and out of control so, once again, I put it away.
For the first semester of third year, I picked up the story once more, this time determined to make something of it. The story is dramatically different, now following the lives of five main characters: Thomas (once Nathan), Elenore (once Elizabeth), Hugo, Oscar, and Astor.
The students are accepted into an elite university in the heart of Bath, and there they discover more about themselves and the world around them. One thing they learn is that they can time travel, and that they have had the ability all their lives. Though at first all the students decide to keep their powers a secret, the university find out, and some of the teachers want to use the students as messengers, and to help secure them more power...
That's all I can say without getting too plot heavy. There's a lot of fighting, a lot of rivalry, a little bit or romance, but a lot of learning to do.
Currently this project is on a pause while I finish my university studies, but I hope to get back to it soon!
I will post a little snippet after graduation!
