Established in July 2022, Kuching Dodgeball Association (KDA) is a homegrown community-driven organization dedicated to introducing and promoting the sport of dodgeball in Kuching, Sarawak. Despite being considered an unconventional sport in East Malaysia, dodgeball has seen tremendous success in West Malaysia, with the Malaysian national teams achieving remarkable results on the world stage. The Malaysian Men’s Team secured three gold medals over five years, while the Women’s Team earned two gold medals in the same period. However, representation from East Malaysia has been limited — something KDA aims to change by cultivating top-tier talent from Kuching.
OUR PURPOSE
KDA’s mission is to build a vibrant dodgeball community where players can learn, compete, and thrive. We provide opportunities for players of all skill levels through organized drop-in sessions, tournaments, and community outreach programs. By focusing on inclusivity, sportsmanship, and athletic development, we strive to make dodgeball a staple sport in Kuching.
We also follow our six core values throughout whatever we do — Honesty, Sportsmanship, Passion, Respect, Teamwork and Integrity
WHAT WE DO
Drop-In Sessions:
We host weekly drop-in sessions open to anyone aged 14 and above. These sessions provide a welcoming environment for beginners and experienced players alike, fostering a love for the sport while enhancing players' skills.
Tournaments & Events:
We organize competitive tournaments at local, national, and international levels, including the Sarawak Open Dodgeball Tournament, where teams from Malaysia and Singapore participate.
Community & School Outreach:
Our outreach efforts include dodgeball clinics for schools, workshops for corporate clients, and events to introduce dodgeball as part of high school curricula, promoting teamwork, leadership, and communication skills.
Developing Competitive Clubs:
KDA has played a vital role in establishing Kuching’s first competitive dodgeball clubs, including:
Tsunami Dodgeball Club (2023): Kuching’s first competitive team with participation in tournaments locally, nationally, and internationally.
Hawks Dodgeball Club (2023): A UNIMAS-based team offering students the chance to experience dodgeball while promoting the sport to high school students.
Gators Dodgeball Club (2024): A Swinburne Sarawak-based team aimed at promoting dodgeball within the university and competing alongside the Kuching community.
OUR VISION
Our vision is to become the leading dodgeball association in East Malaysia, setting the benchmark for sports development while fostering a community built on passion, excellence, and camaraderie. We aim to build future champions and cultivate lasting friendships through shared experiences on and off the court.
BEYOND DODGEBALL
At KDA, dodgeball is more than just throwing and dodging. Our players learn vital life skills, including communication, strategic thinking, and resilience. Through intense gameplay, they develop sportsmanship, integrity, and mutual respect while building strong bonds across diverse backgrounds. In the eyes of opponents, we transform from strangers into formidable competitors. To our players, dodgeball becomes a lifelong passion and a source of personal growth.
