Tim Treloar stars in the role of the Third Doctor, originally portrayed by Jon Pertwee, and is joined by his companions Jo Grant (Katy Manning), Liz Shaw (Daisy Ashford) and Sarah Jane Smith (Sadie Miller) for a series of brand new adventures.

The biographical film focuses on a dramatised version of events surrounding the creation of Doctor Who in the 1960s, with emphasis on actor William Hartnell, portrayed by Bradley, as he took on the role of the original incarnation of the show's main character, the Doctor. Alongside Hartnell, the story also focused on the behind-the-scene events with the production staff, including the involvement of Sydney Newman, Verity Lambert and Waris Hussein. The television film received positive feedback after its broadcast and received a number of award nominations. Following his role in the film, Bradley would take part in Doctor Who in the role of the First Doctor, for the 2017 episodes "The Doctor Falls" and "Twice Upon a Time",[8] and the 2022 special "The Power of the Doctor",[9] as well as for a series of audio adventures for Big Finish Productions.[10]

In 1963, Sydney Newman (Brian Cox) becomes the BBC's new Head of Drama. To plug a gap between the broadcasts of Grandstand and Juke Box Jury, he devises a new science-fiction series, to be titled "Doctor Who", which will cater to children and sports fans alike, and feature a central character who is an old man and a "doctor". Newman recruits a former production assistant Verity Lambert (Jessica Raine) to head the programme as its producer, despite the difficulties she faces from others in her new role. Lambert and Waris Hussein (Sacha Dhawan), the programme's director, recruit William Hartnell (David Bradley), typecasted for army roles, to portray The Doctor, despite his trepidation over how it will aid his acting career.

A number of the cast have appeared in Doctor Who at one time or another, most notably original companions William Russell and Carole Ann Ford. David Bradley appeared in the Series 7 episode "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship", while Jessica Raine was in the Series 7 episode "Hide" and the Call the Midwife charity cross-over mini-episode; Jeff Rawle was in the Season 21 serial Frontios; Mark Eden appeared as the title character in the Season 1 serial Marco Polo; Nicholas Briggs, who has voiced the Daleks since the series was revived in 2005, portrayed his own predecessor; and Brian Cox voiced the Elder Ood in "The End of Time". Jean Marsh and Anneke Wills, who both played companions to Hartnell's First Doctor also appeared during Verity Lambert's leaving party scene, while William Russell appeared as security guard Harry. Sacha Dhawan would go on to play the Master starting with the Series 12 episode "Spyfall", while Bradley would re-don the First Doctor costume to play the part himself in the 2017 Christmas episode, "Twice Upon a Time", and then again five years later in Jodie Whittaker's final episode as the Doctor "The Power of the Doctor". Bradley also appeared as the Doctor in a series of audio adventures produced by Big Finish Productions alongside Jamie Glover, Jemma Powell and Claudia Grant as Ian, Barbara and Susan.[12]

In 2001, Paul McGann became involved with Big Finish Productions producing adventures as the Eighth Doctor, a role he originated in the 1996 TV movie Doctor Who, as part of their ongoing Main Range. However, in 2007, due to the popularity of several of these titles on BBC Radio 7 (now known as BBC Radio 4 Extra), the BBC partnered with Big Finish to produce a series called The Eighth Doctor Adventures for BBC Radio 7 beginning with Blood of the Daleks, co-starring Sheridan Smith as the Doctor's latest companion Lucie Miller and featuring a guest appearance from a then fairly unknown Hayley Atwell.[1] This range would go on for a further three seasons of stories, with Lucie initially departing in the 2009 Christmas special Death in Blackpool. The fourth season brought in Niky Wardley as the Doctor's new companion Tamsin Drew and reintroduced Carole Ann Ford as the Doctor's granddaughter Susan Foreman from the original television series, with Sheridan returning as Lucie later in the season. The range concluded in 2011 with the fourth season finale To the Death, which saw the deaths of both Lucie and Tamsin in a grim ending for the Doctor.

Following the success of Dark Eyes, the multi-volume boxset format was used extensively, starting with the four-part saga Doom Coalition from 2015 to 2017. McGann and Walker reprised their roles as the Eighth Doctor and Liv Chenka respectively, and were joined by new companion Helen Sinclair, portrayed by Hattie Morahan. It also featured the return of Alex Kingston as River Song in a recurring capacity, marking the first time elements from the revived iteration of the parent series Doctor Who appeared. Doom Coalition was followed by two more four-part sagas starring McGann, Walker, and Morahan as the Doctor, Liv, and Helen, which were entitled Ravenous (2018-2019) and Stranded (2020-2022). The end of Stranded depicted Liv's departure from the TARDIS, though it left a narrative gap for more adventures with the trio in the future.

In May 2020, Big Finish announced the Main Range would conclude in March 2021 and subsequently replaced with regular releases of each Doctor's adventures continuing in their own respective ranges.[4][5] A previously released special title from 2003 and all the boxset series with the Eighth Doctor were united under the umbrella banner of The Eighth Doctor Adventures as part of this change. Two new standalone boxsets What Lies Inside? and Connections were announced for release in 2022, which featured the returns of McGann, Walker, and Morahan as the Doctor, Liv, and Helen.

It was announced on the 30th of June 2023 that two boxsets where scheduled for 2024. Nicholas Briggs described them as "really imaginative, celebratory adventures that feel like Classic Doctor Who turned right up to eleven, in the very best of ways."[13]

Set much later in the Eighth Doctor's timeline and a prequel to The War Doctor range. This explores Eighth Doctor's time attempting to avoid the Time War and his adventure with Bliss, and later Alex Campbell and Cass Fermazzi.

Just finished big finish 9th doctor adventure girl deconstructed by Lisa Mccullin and it is fantastic! Haven't listened to the other two yet, but already this box set was worth the money for me. A fun intimate story that lets Eccleston's doctor shine. Why oh why didn't they start the series with (a story like) this one? Ravagers was so generic it could have featured every doctor. (excuse my English, I'm Dutch)

As I'm working my way through the EDA's, I've decided to use the Past Doctor books as a change of pace to break up the EDA's after reading a few. I'm currently about halfway through In The Shadow Of The Glass which I absolutely love. So which of the past Doctor stories are the best? Or which do you think are underrated or particularly like. I definitely prefer doctor's 2-3-6-7 to the rest, but Im certainly not opposed to any Doctor!

Complete with a delightfully cheeky performance from Christopher Eccleston, who brings perfectly to life the impish irreverence with which McMullin imbues the Doctor, Girl, Deconstructed is a strong way to open this new boxset of audio adventures for the Ninth Doctor, a delightful throwback the soap opera trappings of 2005 Who, while being fresh and modern at the same time. Great stuff.

In 2005 BBC Books retired its EDA and PDA lines, preferring to focus its publishing efforts on novels based upon the revived TV series. Although there was speculation that the Eighth Doctor's adventures might continue in a revived PDA line of books, this did not occur. The literary adventures of the Eighth Doctor continued in the Short Trips short story anthologies published by Big Finish Productions (many of which were written by veterans of the EDA and PDA ranges), until that series was also retired in the spring of 2009. BBC Books and Puffin have included the Eighth Doctor in various short story series and collections since.

We frequently require doctors and nurses to travel overseas so that they can provide care to medical patients who are travelling internationally on scheduled flights. These patients will usually be individuals who have been hospitalised during a holiday or a business trip and who now require medical assistance in order to travel home safely.

This work is varied and exciting as it can involve travel to almost any part of the world in order to look after patients with a very wide range of needs. This role will appeal to those with a sense of adventure and who wish to add something new to their current portfolio of work. Flying missions frequently come up at short notice and will inevitably involve one or more nights away from home: for this reason the role is suitable for those whose current working patterns afford blocks of time off.

We will arrange and pay for travel, support arranging indemnity insurance and cover those expenses too. You should be a UK registered doctor/nurse/paramedic registered in the UK, ideally with recent acute/emergency care experience. You will be supported virtually by our lead Health and Welfare Officer, plus the option of case discussion with our emergency care consultants as required from the Bristol Royal Infirmary NHS Trust.
