We've been using DWMRC for years, since the 7.0 days. I was using 12.0 for awhile but recently updated to 12.1. Now every time I connect to anyones machine for support I get a very annoying nuisance pop up that never appeared before. It says "The remote system is using the same active keyboard layout as your local system. If keyboard layouts are likely to change, we suggested disabling keyboard translation support. Would you like to disable support? Yes / No". No matter what I click here the message keeps coming up if I connect to the same machine or different machine.

How can I get this very annoying and unproductive message to stop, without downgrading back to 12.0? I'm not even sure what this message is supposed to convey. As a user all I care about is that I can connect on quickly when needed. I could give two sh*ts about some kind of keyboard layout... that's really irrelevant IMO.

I have seen the opposite question asked a number of times (make local layout win), but I can't find the answer to my problem. Many answers to the opposite problem revolves around adding a registry key to ignore the host layout. But that key does not exist on my windows machine (and I doubt if I can change the registry settings).

In your case, since remote desktop takes the precedence, it seems logic to install the proper layout (colemak) on the windows machine and switch to that to use it in the virtual environment too. Since you are not in the possibility to install any driver I see only a couple of solutions:

If you can install some program for the current user, you may try to use another program to connect with your emulated environment, choosing one that allows you to select the host keyboard layout. I remember that No Machine worked well once...you can try it (there is a free version too).

The local keyboard is not a resource that Remote desktop can make availableon the remote computer. The most it can do is allow the Windows key combinationsto be transparently passed over or locally executed:

For context, I need to type in two languages with different keyboard layouts.

When using a remote desktop, I would like the remote system to use what ever layout is currently active on my own system, even if I change it later.

Using IgnoreRemoteKeyboardLayout from this question, I can get the remote system to use the layout I'm currently using when I'm connecting to the remote. However, it doesn't allow me to keep the two in sync.

Ideally, both the remote and local machine would sync the active keyboard layout and changing it on one would also update it on the other. But a one-way update from the host to the remote would suffice as well.

These are the steps I had to do to fix the keyboard layout in xrdp in Ubuntu 12.04. The original link was a big help, but a bit out-dated. I also found useful information with the rdesktop project, for finding country codes: here and here.

Replace model and layout language code to whatever is the correct one for you. I just ran setxkbmap -print on the client PC (which incidently also runs Ubuntu 12.04) to get an idea about these values. Note that setxkbmap needs to have a display to run. You can either run the console through a RDP session or perhaps even login through ssh with X display redirection, like this ssh -X .

UPDATEI use Windows RealVNC to connect to the entOS. Centos are only set to English. Windows has Ukrainian and English. The language switches only in Windows and it passed to Linux. The problem with the language/keyboard mapping was until i changed to remote control on linux from TigerVNC to TurboVNC.

My work computer (Win 7 Pro) running latest Fences has 2 monitors. I frequently access it from home using remote desktop. My home computer (Win 10 PRO) also has Fences (probably not relevant) and a single monitor. On the home computer the various fences from the 2 monitors all pile on top of each other on the single monitor. When I get back to work, they are still all on the one monitor but I normally can restore a snapshot but today, they seem to try to get over to the second monitor but then jump back. My 2 work monitors are standard size and the one at home is wide screen. Are there any settings to first make the screen adjust for the single monitor and second restore the setting when I log in at work?

(Desktop composition or Aero Glass will not be enabled at the remote desktop client if the client is using multiple monitors. Desktop composition is only enabled if the remote desktop client is using a single monitor.)

Hi @Henk Volkers,

there is no specific reset of the layout, provided that you didn't change any of the style sheets within the operating system of our GX device.

But you could try to clear the browser cache.

"Switching" between the tiles is swipe left/right with your mouse or with your fingers on a mobil device.

And my favorite layout in the remote console is the one with the seperate devices, where you can see how the current is going. It is impossible to get there, swiping etc with mouse or fingers, no effect.

sorry to hear.

Yes, you basically can delete the installation on VRM by going to the General tab and then hit delete. Be aware that this will delete all your history data on VRM. Then you need to reboot your GX device afterwards.

After reboot your GX device will resume sending data to VRM. Then set up a new installation. But I'm not 100% sure this will solve your problem. To be honest, I've never seen this error.

Or proceed as @JohnC suggests and try opening the remote console from local first and see how it behaves.

Hi John, I think you put me on the right track. Entering the Venus directly gave the same fault, so I disconnected the venus from 24volt, After starting up again, the remote console is normal again, and swiping works! Thanks for your reactions!

What you want to do is not possible; live View objects cannot be used with notifications; RemoteViews is the only type supported for Notification.contentView. If you look at the API docs you can see that the only way to create one is by referencing a layout xml file, although once you have one you can modify it in lots of different ways, including adding other RemoteViews to the layout.

I do a lot of work by remote on client's servers. An issue I face with using colemak is mapping the keyboard layout on the remote machine. These are business clients I work with, and many of them would not appreciate me running "unknown" programs on their secure enterprise servers. So running colemak.exe or installing a new keyboard layout are pretty much out of the question. In fact I'd prefer not to have to do anything at all on the remote machine. It would be better if I could just connect, and it would just map my local keyboard layout to whatever layout the remote machine has.

I think this works because it is entirely software based, so it's actually working from your local windows keyboard layout. Compared to the real RDP client, which is a little bit more hardware/kernel based, and so it bypasses your windows layout. So, I'd be willing to bet that many third party rdp clients would work in the same way.

Can anyone else share their experiences with this? Any other rdp clients that are known to work without modifying the remote computer? Or possibly modifications to the local rdp client that can make it work?

This is a problem for me too. I found out that the "pkl" program (the portable Colemak layout application) works well with Remote Desktop. This is what motivated me to use pkl instead of the keyboard driver.

When I'm ssh'ing from Linux (under a desktop environment - I'm not sure if it's the same from a console). My local layout, is what I get to use on the remote. Which is great. I don't have to worry about configuring remotes at all.

Having said that, I remotely jumped onto a Windows 8 machine (Dvorak), from Windows 7 (Qwerty), and it worked fine. I could even toggle my layout on the remote relatively easily. But it had been set up prior to this.

Windows Remote Desktop is supposed to use the same layout in the remote machine as is set up in the local one. However, this doesn't work consistently, especially if you use keyboard layouts not provided with Windows.

On the other hand, PKL running on the local machine works transparently (at least has been working for me - knock on wood x 3) on the remote machine too. No need to run PKL on the remote machine. This is in fact the main reason i use PKL instead of the keyboard driver.

Mac keyboard layouts differ from the Windows keyboard layouts. There are many types of Mac keyboard layouts. Some of these are Mac specific layouts or custom layouts for which an exact match may not be available on the version of Windows you are remoting into. The remote session maps your keyboard to the best matching keyboard language available on the remote PC.

By default, the remote session will use the same keyboard locale as the OS you're running the client on. (If your Mac is running an en-us OS, that will be used for the remote sessions as well.) If the OS keyboard locale is not used, check the keyboard setting on the remote PC and change it manually.

I don't think it's possible to get the layouts to do what you want while using briefing room mode, at least easy if at all possible. With briefing room mode in use, it configures the codec, displays, and cameras based on the room mode you've selected. If you would like for the audience camera and presenter camera to be able to automatically switch or function together while in the discussion mode, suggest you contact your Account Manager and submit a feature request. 2351a5e196
