We are able to run courses ranging from and introduction to working with Chainsaws through to advanced climbing workshops.
Whatever your interest please get in touch to talk through what is possible.
To date I have successfully prepared people for the following NPTC qualification assessments.
CS30
Basic chainsaw maintenance and cross cutting. This is ideal for those looking to start using chainsaws safely. It covers Personal Protective Equipment, safe cutting of timber on the floor and keeping saws in good condition.
CS31
Following on from the CS30, this qualification introduces the skills needed to fell 'small' trees safely. (Small being up to 15 inch diameter at base) It also covers how to resolve problems associated with this work safely.
CS38
This is the first step on the ladder to becoming a climbing arborist. Essentially it covers the traditional methods of accessing a tree with rope and harness and starts to develop the skills required to be able to work as a rescue climber in a work situation
CS39
This covers the use of a chainsaw whilst climbing. CS31 is a prerequisite and it is an essential qualification for the climbing Arborist
CS40
Rigging, climbing arborists work above valuable property, the art and science is to be able to work on trees without damaging what is below you. The course covers the basics and will help you progress as a climbing arborist
Training for the City and Guilds qualifications gives good grounding for becoming a safe and professional tree worker. In the workplace PUWER regulation means that employers have to be able to ensure their staff are capable of the work they are being asked to do. These qualifications (and others CS32 etc) have become the industry standard in the UK and are essential for those wanting to work in the industry.
Each of these qualifications is independently assessed.
Some people have no need or desire to work towards qualifications or perhaps the qualifications don't cover the skills that you need.
Examples of workshops not aimed at qualifications.
"An introduction to chainsaw use" - including the selection of personal protective equipment, fuelling the saw, starting the saw, safety checks, cross cutting with safe positioning and sharpening the saw before you put it away. This can really help a home owners stay safe.
"Developing climber" - building on what is learnt on the traditional and standard courses. Great climbers have a range of techniques that are not covered in the standard training courses. The industry is evolving quickly and institutions can't keep up developments in climbing and rigging. We can work with developing climbers building their knowledge and confidence with techniques such as SRT and the use of lifting equipment in the tree.
