I am currently working on discourse intonation use within different contexts, wherein I explore the listeners' perceptions of certain discourse intonation cues, such as initiality, topicality, continuity, and finality. The cues are reportedly essential for one's perception of the entire discourse, as they might influence the degree of (non)nativeness. By the same token, I am exploring the sociolinguistic function of the perception, or to be more specific, how certain groups of people rate different groups of speakers on a relevant sociolinguistic scale. The aim of the research is to raise awareness of the discourse intonation features within a phonological theory of speech, and to investigate its sociolinguistic implications.
In collaboration with my colleague Lyndon Rey and Dr. Dimitrios Skordos, I developed a website for the Linguistics Division of Calgary. My task was to develop a complete design of the website, ensure its readability index, security and 'attractiveness'. The website is live and running, and you can check it out here: https://calgarylinguistics.ca/
