Service-Learning Reflection

I had the opportunity to participate in four different clinic sessions. Three of those sessions were adult on-site clinics and the other was a pediatric telehealth session. These were a great introduction into OT. Every client I saw was different and had different goals. It showed to me how OT practitioners are amazing and can adapt to all diverse types of scenarios.

I had a lot of personal growth from watching these clinics take place. Being able to see the treatment process as well as all the planning that goes into the treatment helped me learn a lot. We truly are client centered, and I love it. One thing I really enjoyed was collaborating with the other students while gathering and sharing information. I feel more confident in my note taking because of these clinics.

My favorite treatment activity we did was playing baseball. This client played baseball in college, so we worked it into his treatment to make it more meaningful to him. I also really enjoy baseball and was able to help in this activity. I loved that we were able to bring back old memories for him and make him more confident in his abilities all while working towards his goals.

Overall, I had a wonderful experience and learned a lot. I am excited to take all the things I learned this semester into the next semester and my future career. I enjoyed learning new skills and seeing how everyone used their therapeutic use of self differently in their work.
