Why We Love DECA

Initially I had no idea what DECA was, Mr. Nilsson was my marketing teacher and told me I would be a great fit for the organization... and it was possibly the best choice of my life. I have learned so much about myself since the day i joined. I found ways to push myself, create new relationships, learn about how to deal with real-world scenarios and found my true passion in life. - Tayloranne Madrid-Murray '21

My favorite part of DECA is being exposed to business issues and getting to solve them in whatever way I see best fit! I love that the competition side of DECA can bring out my creative side, while the operational side can help me gain leadership qualities. My favorite part about DECA is the people. Everyone I meet through DECA is creative, driven, and hardworking, and they’ve made me better in some way. From those people, I’ve learned everything from how to be more charismatic to how body language affects a conversation. My favorite part about DECA is how much I have improved my speaking abilities, and consequently, have created connections with fellow students and adults. For example, my judge connected with me on LinkedIn and has aided me in catering my resume for any jobs that I wish to apply for.
