corner of 7th & Angular, Burlington, Iowa
This garden was started in the spring of 2012. An Iowa State University Extension Growing Together Grant sponsored raised beds and fencing for wildlife in 2020. The Des Moines County Master Gardeners and neighbors in South Hill work in this garden. It serves as an example of what you might put in your own garden. You are welcome to join in working and harvesting in this garden. For more information, visit South Hill Neighborhood Association's facebook page.
Produce that is harvested from this garden is weighed, recorded, and donated within the community. Folks from the neighborhood are also invited to come and help us pull weeds and harvest food for themselves.
Although this garden is in the middle of town, wildlife can be hard on our veggies. Over the last couple of years we've installed fencing around the garden with chickenwire down low, to discourage rabbits and ground hogs, and fishing line up high, to deter those jumping deer!.
