Product: Nintendo Switch Re-Design Role: UX Researcher | Designer Duration: 3 Days | Aug 2025
The vision of this redesign was to create an energetic and immersive product detail page for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Bundle. My vision was to combine modern e-commerce best practices with Nintendo’s playful brand personality. I wanted to showcase movement, interactivity, and clear product storytelling so that users could immediately feel the excitement of the bundle while easily accessing all essential details.
Striking a balance between playful Nintendo visuals and clean, scannable e-commerce structure.
Incorporating motion and video in a way that added energy without overwhelming the user.
Designing for both desktop and mobile while maintaining consistency.
Staying true to Nintendo’s brand and design system, while also pushing creative elements like animated CTAs and feature highlights.
To ground the redesign, I carried out three areas of research:
Investigated the Nintendo Switch 2 hardware specs, bundle details, and existing e-commerce product pages to identify opportunities for improvement.
Studied Mario Kart’s visual language (icons, colours, energy) to translate its playful spirit into UI elements and micro-interactions.
Reviewed Nintendo’s design system, including their typography, colour palette, and brand patterns, to ensure my redesign stayed authentic and aligned with their global identity.
I started with low-fidelity wireframes to establish hierarchy and flow, focusing on the hero section, product description, and purchase path. From there, I built high-fidelity mockups in Figma, incorporating video (game trailer in the hero section) and interaction ideas such as animated add-to-cart feedback. The prototype highlights how storytelling and motion can enhance usability and product appeal.
Typography: Clear, bold sans-serif fonts with strong hierarchy for product names and playful subheadings.
Colours: Nintendo’s signature Red (#E60012) paired with black, white, and grey neutrals for balance, accented by Mario Kart’s vivid palette (yellow stars, green shells, track lines).
UI Elements: Rounded buttons and cards inspired by controller shapes.
Motion Principles: Simple, joyful micro-interactions (snapping, bouncing, zooming) to capture Nintendo’s approachable and fun brand personality.
Playfulness and usability can coexist, by balancing bold visuals with clear hierarchy, I kept the page fun without losing clarity. Motion brings products to life, even subtle animations (video hero, animated CTA) make the experience more engaging. Consistency with brand systems is essential, staying close to Nintendo’s design system ensured my redesign felt authentic. Scalability matters, keeping layers, components, and variants organised in Figma made the file neat and easy to iterate on.
