Welcome to Math Ideas, Tips, & Resources!
This site is designed to share ideas, activities, resources, and tips for strengthening math instruction and student learning, as well as for increasing student engagement with learning and applying math. The activities and resources included here are designed to develop depth of understanding, application of math concepts and skills, and practice with applying concepts and skills. Real-life application is often used to strengthen students' connections to their learning. Depth in conceptual understanding with real-life application and connections strengthen students' retention of learning as well as their interest in learning.
The ideas, activities, tips, and resources included here are primarily designed for grades K to 8. Some activities, tips, and resources are grade level specific, and some can be adapted to any K to 8 grade. Additionally, some of the activities, tips, and resources can be easily adapted for a high school level and/or could be used at the high school level to review underlying concepts.
With the ideas, activities, resources, and tips provided, I explain the thinking and intent behind them. I hope to encourage you to self-reflect on the approach used in your classroom, on the strategies for implementing activities, and on the level of conceptual understanding that is fostered in your classroom. Every student deserves the opportunity to learn every day and to be provided the foundation for success.
