Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi

The Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi, was established on 24th July 1958. The foundation stone of the building was laid by Late Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru on 17th December 1959 and inaugurated by Late Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan on 9th September 1962. Among the dignitaries who attended the inaugural function were Shri UN Debhar and Shri G. Ramchandran. Prof. Sadgopal was appointed the first Director of Gandhi Bhawan. The genesis pertaining to the establishment of the Gandhi Bhawan lies in the meeting of the Executive Council held on 24th July 1958. To achieve stipulated objectives, the Gandhi Bhawan organizes programmes-Lectures, workshops, symposia, and seminars on Gandhian Ideology, Discourse on Gita, Yoga and Meditation classes, Gandhi Study Circles in various colleges, International Day of Yoga, World Environment Day, Library, debate, peace marches, poster & slogan, essay writing, painting, declamation contest, etc. One of the important programs of Gandhi Bhawan is Library-cum-Reading Room consisting of Gandhian Philosophy and Indian culture. Recently Gandhi Bhawan organized on the occasion of International Yoga Day- A Yoga Week (21-27th June 2022) successfully by inviting Yogrishi Swami Ramdev, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Hon’ble MoS for Parliamentary Affairs & Culture, Prof. Yogesh Singh, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi, Shri Vijay Goel, Hon’ble Vice-Chairman, Gandhi Smriti & Gandhi Darshan, etc.

Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti

Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti (GSDS) was formed in September 1984 by the merger of Gandhi Darshan at Rajghat and Gandhi Smriti at 5 Tees January Marg as an autonomous body. It functions under constructive advice and financial support from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The Institution is headed under the dynamic leadership of Shri Narender Modi ji the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India as its chairperson and it has a nominated body of senior Gandhians and representatives of various government departments to guide it in its activities. Shri Vijay Goel, former Union Minister is the Vice-Chairman. The basic aim and objective of the Samiti are to propagate the life, mission, and thought of Mahatma Gandhi through various socio-educational and cultural programs.

Delhi Library Association (DLA)

Delhi Library Association is one of the oldest professional organizations in India which was established in 1939 with pious efforts and visionary approach of great legends like Sir John Philip Sargent, then the Education Secretary, Government of India, as President; Prof. Rai Bahadur Ram Kishore, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, the University of Delhi as Senior Vice-President and Mr. Fasi Uddin Ahmad, the then Secretary of Hardinge Public Library as its General Secretary. DLA was later nurtured and strengthened for its library development and promotion by committed professionals of Library and Information Science namely, First Padma Shri and First National Professor of Delhi University Dr. SR Ranganathan, Chaudhary Brahm Prakash, the first Chief Minister of Delhi, Dr. Inder Kumar Gujral, Former Prime Minister of India, Ms. Shanta Vashist, Member of Parliament, Prof. S Dasgupta, Padma Shri Prof. PN Kaula, Prof. Girja Kumar, Prof. CP Vashishth, Mr. ML Kachroo, Mr. CS Krishnamurti and many others and presently it is blossoming under the patronage of a highly committed, dedicated, eminent educationist, administrator, practicing librarian, Prof. KP Singh, President, DLA, and Dr. Jnanendra Narayan Singh as General Secretary.

Satija Research Foundation for Library and Information Science (SRFLIS)

SRFLIS was founded in 2009 and registered under the Societies Act XXI-1860 with its headquarters in Delhi which is responsible: to promote research and development activities in the Library and Information Science; launching/sponsoring/publishing and distribute research and scholarly library literature; to organize seminars, workshops, competitions, training programs and lectures in LIS; and to award scholarships to deserving and meritorious students and researchers. The Foundation successfully organized three high-standard International Conferences in 2014, 2015 & 2019.
