Thank you to BETA for such a great event!
Stay Tuned! Planning is underway for all chapters!
On Saturday May 11, Beta Chapter, Calgary celebrated its 60th Anniversary. We welcomed our DKG guests(Elaine Whitford, Sherri Eichhorn and Brenda Smith), listened to greetings from International President, Debbie LeBlanc and ARC, Lorna Berlinguette, honoured our founders, enjoyed Anne Dewitt’s speech, watched a loop of photos showing Beta members over the last 60 years, enjoyed a delicious meal, had lively conversations and Inducted 4 new members.
Eta's Founders Day Breakfast was on May 4 at the Broadmoor Golf Club.
Interesting Facts were shared about our Founders, and a presentation by Nancy Luyckfassel on "The Leadership Garden" compared how being a women educator and leader is like tending a garden. We need to nurture one another. Women still face many barriers to success and this causes lower self esteem, stress and mental anguish. Women can help one another by having safe and heathy environments, creating network opportunities, providing training and development, promoting visibility and recognition and fostering resilience and perseverance.
Eta recently also did a Random Acts of Kindness Car Rally. One task was to visit a thrift store and buy a children's book to be donated to Bags of Love. Way to go!

Gamma Chapter hosted World Fellowship student Nayantara Govindraja to speak on zoom about her work on breast cancer.
Nayantara received an engineering degree, specifically an engineering degree (Bachelor of Technology) in Biotechnology in India. She moved to Calgary, Alberta in 2017 to study cell and developmental biology, investigating the role of a gene involved in stem cell behavior and DNA damage and what it does in mammary development (breast cancer.) She will finish her Ph. D in the next few months, and then continue doing research and development in industry or postdoctoral work at a university which will also allow her to teach.
In May, Alpha was treated to a great presentation by Anali Nicole on hypnotherapy. Also, we inducted one more member!
Alpha enjoyed fellowship with Pizza and Fruit at our first meeting back in September
Members gave accounts about the International Convention 2024 held at National Harbor, Maryland, USA.
A form was passed out to members. The question to be answered was: “What do you get out of DKG”? A poster board was made out of the collected papers.
A Social Evening for Potential New Members will be held on September 26, 2024. This is an opportunity to bring a friend who might be a potential member. A short program will include an icebreaker, a video about DKG, as well as presentations from 2 of our members.
We will continue our Monthly Book Club meetings by Zoom and on the third Saturday of each month all of Alpha will have a chance to meet for our Alpha and Friends Luncheons.
