At one point in the past the Greek witch Circe hid herself under the identity of a mortal named Donna Milton. As Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth could see through any disguise, Circe cast a spell on herself to truly believe she was Donna until an opportune moment presented itself where she could destroy the Amazon. As Donna Milton she believed herself to be a lawyer working for a Boston crime boss named Ares Buchanan. Unbeknownst to Donna, Ares Buchanan was really the Olympian god Ares in disguise as well. The two formed a sexual relationship once she agreed to help Ares defeat Wonder Woman, who was interrupting his illegal business dealings.
After becoming pregnant Donna informed Ares that she was going to have his child. Ares showed Donna that he wasn't interested in fatherhood by shooting Donna in the chest. Because of a weapon used shortly thereafter, a mini-black hole was created that seemingly destroyed Ares and caused the building to fall on top of Donna and Wonder Woman. They fell through to the sewers below and landed in a huge underwater pool. The shock of the shooting and the black hole caused Donna to go into premature labor. Wonder Woman helped calm Donna and deliver her baby. Ashamed that she previously aided Ares in destroying Wonder Woman after sacrificing her own life to save her, Donna named her newborn daughter after Wonder Woman's mother Hippolyta or "Lyta".

Wonder Woman helped to get Donna back on her feet so that she could properly care for Lyta by hiring her to be the company lawyer for a detective agency she and friend Micah Rains newly established. This arrangement worked nicely for some time until Wonder Woman was able to discover that Donna was really Circe. Once this happened, Lyta's blonde hair and blue eyes changed to resemble more of her mother's features: purple hair and purple/red eyes. Reclaiming her true identity, Circe took Lyta away from Boston and began teaching her more about her Greek god-like heritage across the globe.
Angered that she would allow herself to become a close friend of Wonder Woman, albeit in a different persona, Circe took to attacking Wonder Woman more frequently. During each attack Circe had Lyta present to better show her daughter how to better destroy her enemies. To this end Circe allied herself with many evil and ruthless killers such as:Sebastian Ballesteros, Lex Luthor, Doctor Psycho, and the Silver Swan Despite being surrounded by such bad people at such a young age, Lyta's personality remained sweet and friendly. She even took to waving hello to Wonder Woman when she would see her. On one occasion Circe had Lyta hide in the shadows and watch as Circe and Wonder Woman beat each other mercilessly. Confused and frightened for her mother's welfare, Lyta began crying and ran to her mother's side for comfort. Circe as angry with Lyta for not following her orders to stay hidden but Wonder Woman verbally chastised Circe to see the situation for what it was: a moment when her child needed her to be a true role-model and to comfort her child. Circe grudgingly agreed and disappeared while holding Lyta, telling her everything is going to be okay.
When Wonder Woman's homeland of Themyscira was revamped to include a rehabilitation island for prisoners, Circe is captured and held there. So that she could not use her magics to escape she is surrounded by the plant Moly, which is the one substance that nullifies Circe's sorceries. Lyta is then taken to be raised on the main island along with many orphaned children. Though Lyta has trouble bonding with the other children on the island,she does become quite close to several Amazons and takes pleasure in being trained in the Amazon way. After the Amazon Io teaches Lyta how to properly respect the god Poseidon and his domain, Lyta's father Ares appears. He incapacitates Io and steals Lyta stating that he means to raise his daughter on his own terms. When Circe learns what has happened she escapes her prison and confronts Ares. Ares tells Circe that the time of the gods is at a crossroads and that drastic measures needed to be taken. Circe agrees to join Ares as his consort, making them new co-rulers of the Underworld. Thus, Lyta continued to be cared for by both of her parents, reunited.
During the events of Amazons Attack, Circe is banished to remain in the Underworld. Similarly, Ares is killed by Wonder Woman in battle. Whether Lyta is still in the Underworld with her parents remains to be seen.
As the daughter to the God of War and one of the planet's most powerful witches(and thus grand-daughter of the Titan Hyperion), Lyta possesses a vast amount of magical potential. The limits and extent of those abilities remain unseen due to her relative young age. The few magics Lyta has been shown to accomplish are the ability to disintegrate and levitate objects, as well as be able to view objects from a remote location. In addition, Lyta was trained in the use of a bow and arrow during her time among the Amazons.
Originally born on Earth-Two as the daughter of Princess Diana (Wonder Woman) and her husband General Steve Trevor, Hippolyta Trevor was born with superhuman attributes based on her mother's Amazonian nature. Named after her maternal grandmother, the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta grew up in relative peace and security under the tutelage of her mother, a noted superhuman crime fighter and her father, one of the most respected military leaders in the United States.
Hippolyta remained mostly in the shadow of her famous parents until she attained early adulthood and sought to actively pursue an active crime-fighting career in her mother's historic group, the Justice Society of America. Despite her mother's support, Hippolyta was rejected along with other applicants for being essentially untested and, some stated, too young.
Undaunted, Hippolyta and the other rejected members along with three younger Justice Society members, Power Girl, the Huntress and the Star-Spangled Kid, formed their own supergroup known as Infinity, Inc. This organization consisted of many of the direct children and successors of the Justice Society members. Despite their youth, the team proved their effectiveness when the Justice Society was possessed by the Stream of Ruthlessness and they defeated their elder heroes. While a member of Infinity, Inc., Lyta met and became romantically attached to Hector Hall, who was then going by the code name of Silver Scarab.
It was during this time that the Crisis on Infinite Earths occurred, resetting Lyta's history so that she was no longer the daughter of the Earth-Two Wonder Woman, who had been erased from existence. She was now the daughter of the All Star Squadron's "Fury", Helena Kosmatos. Abandoned by Helena, Lyta grew up on Trevor Island as the adopted daughter of Admiral Derek Trevor and his wife, Joan Dale-Trevor, formerly the heroine Miss America. In a curious twist, Lyta was visited and trained by the current incarnation of Hippolyta who was now the Wonder Woman of the World War II era.
Lyta became emotionally dependent on Hector Hall and pregnant with his child. She left Infinity, Inc. to bear her child but Hector was killed before she could give birth and his body possessed by the Silver Scarab entity which briefly captured Lyta before being destroyed by Infinity, Inc.. After Hector was killed, his consciousness was retrieved and transformed into the Sandman by the entities Brute and Glob, and he began to visit her in her dreams after she returned home to Trevor Island and her adoptive parents. Lyta was eventually reunited with Hector, who believed he had been resurrected as the Sandman, and he and Lyta were married. Hector and Lyta went to live in the pocket dimension called the Dream Stream until the dream lord, Morpheus, returned from a lengthy exile and banished Hector after revealing that he was, in fact, a ghost. Lyta gave birth to a son, Daniel, who was soon taken to replace Dream as the Sandman.
But the emotional loss of her family was too much for Lyta when Helena Kosmatos became unbalanced with her own fixation of being an Amazon. Helena was placed under Hippolyta's care, leaving Lyta effectively alone after the death of her husband (it is unknown whether she had any further contact with her adoptive mother, though her adoptive father had apparently died in the meantime).
Lyta was placed into the Amulet of Anubis by Nabu when Hector became Doctor Fate. The two were reunited when Hector found her and the previous Doctor Fates in the amulet. Lyta returned to the normal world. However, as the Spectre began attacking magic users, Hector and Lyta were returned to the amulet.
After many trying exploits in the realm of Dreaming, Lyta returned to the physical world, but was attacked by the Spectre in his recent desire to destroy all magic in the DC Universe during the Infinite Crisis. Apparently sent to a solitary mountain top, Lyta was approached by her son Daniel, now ruler of the Dream reality. It is there that Daniel offered to transport the souls of Lyta and Hector to the Dream Dimension for all eternity, but they could never return to Earth. With Hector near-death, Lyta accepted her son's offer and took the unconscious Hector into the Dream realm. Their bodies were seen remaining in the snow, presumably dead.[2]
While Neil Gaiman's The Sandman takes place within the DC Universe, Gaiman avoided incorporating DC's more recognizable characters into the series after the first volume, Preludes and Nocturnes. One of the few exceptions is Lyta Hall, the mother of Dream's eventual successor Daniel Hall. Fittingly enough, Lyta's lineage was, at one time, tied to one of DC's most powerful heroes.
Originally, Hippolyta "Lyta" Trevor was the daughter of Earth-2's Wonder Woman. However, this origin would eventually prove too complicated for readers and comic book writers to understand. Following the events of Crisis on Infinite Earths, Lyta's backstory would be completely re-written, giving her a new origin that would (at least partially) carries over into Netflix's The Sandman. 152ee80cbc
