You’ve been super careful to not spill anything down your white top and you’ve made sure you haven’t scuffed your white jeans but it’s important to wash them after each wear. The ‘invisible’ dirt (such as body oils and perspiration) inevitably builds up and this can lead to that grey/yellow colour we all dread!
OK, we all have accidents and spillages from time to time but if you do while wearing you fave white clothes, ensure you act quick rather than leaving it until your next wash. Ketchup, red wine and coffee are the worst for white items so try to get some washing detergent (or even better stain remover!) on it ASAP and give it a good rub before throwing them in the washing machine!
Yes, this may seem obvious but we have to reinforce it! We all feel a little lazy at times and think we can get away with throwing the odd colour in with a white wash but the fact is, colours will run and will taint your ‘whiter than white’ shirt! If you absolutely have to, only do so with a colour catcher product.
I know what you’re thinking… how will this affect keeping my whites white?? Well, if you overload your washing machine, there is less room for the items in the drum, less room in the items mean less circulation in the machine, less circulation means less interaction between the detergent and each individual item. This means that those invisible dirts mentioned in point 1 are not having the best chance to be removed.
If you overuse or underuse your detergent, your white fabrics will be left looking grey. That’s because the suds don’t have the ability to be washed away properly and therefore the stains get trapped. Always use as per the instructions on the bottle! Oh and try to use deteregent that contains bleach for your white washes!
