Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) provide learners with lifelong learning opportunities without attending a traditional university or college classroom, allowing learners to upgrade their skills and knowledge for personal growth, career advancement, earning extra credits, or obtaining new certificates. MOOCs offer self-directed learning opportunities, enabling learners to engage with the course material, interact with MOOC instructors, and connect with other MOOC students. Learners can choose topics of personal interest and delve deeper into them through MOOCs.
Many researchers have used the technology acceptance model (TAM) to dig deeper to understand the acceptance of e-learning among learners (Lee et al., 2014). In using the TAM, two elements affect an individual’s attitude and mindset toward using technology for learning. They are perceived usefulness (PU) and perceived ease of use (PEOU) (Lee et al., 2014).
Perceived Usefulness (PU): “The degree to which a person believes that using a particular system would enhance job performance” (Davis, 1989, p.320).
Perceived Ease of Use (PEOU): “The degree to which a person believes that using a particular system would be free of physical and mental effort” (Davis, 1989, p. 320).
