While we have contrasted DIY learning to more traditional learning situations, this does not need to be an either/or choice. As with other approaches to learning, teachers can adapt multiple strategies to their needs.

The goal is not to argue that one approach is optimal in all cases, but to choose methods and tools to the learning objective at hand.

The ideas of DIY learning can still be applied in school settings with children of various ages. A teacher might use these techniques for specific goals in mind. Project based learning can provide an ideal framework to explore aspects of independent learning.
