Dixon Notes
"The Dixon Hotel Company ($1 & $2) Notes" (Images from from Collector Greg Ristich - Pekin, IL)
In 1830 John Dixon bought a ferry from Joseph Ogee . The first settlement in the area because known as "Dixon's Ferry". The Ferry became the only reliable crossing of the Rock River for many miles. The Site became extremely important during the Blackhawk war in 1832. Dixon laid out the site of Dixon's Ferry in 1835 that would later become the City of Dixon. John became known as Father Dixon and was later elected to the Illinois Legislature. The Dixon Hotel Company was formed in 1837, The Dixon Inn/Hotel Dixon originally stood at First & Highland. The above Notes are Dated 1839. Great little historic insights to our area.
