The Dixon Nutcracker started many years ago with a group of young dancers performing a Nutcracker show in the Linnihan's basement. Maddie Linnihan and Emma Favill turned this small production into an annual event at Dixon that many students look forward to year after year. The first production at Dixon included just 40 students, between Cast and Stage Crew recent productions have included well over one hundred Dixon students. The magic of this production is that the production is run each year by a High School aged Director (Dixon Alum) and an amazing group of High School and Middle School students who volunteer their time to share this experience with Dixon students and their families. To provide opportunities for even more students, a stage crew was created for older Dixon students wanting to have an opportunity to help run the production. Although the school supports the production in many ways, the Dixon Nutcracker is the only production of this size that is run completely by Elmbrook students with the help of their families and friends. We will always be thankful to Maddie and Emma for turning their dream of performing a Nutcracker at Dixon School into a reality that has continued for 12 years!
As the Dixon Nutcracker is approaching its 12th year of production this winter, we could not be more ecstatic to start up again. The Dixon Nutcracker is really more than just an elementary school dance to us. Seeing the teen teachers put so much dedication into spending every weekend here teaching the kids dances, the kids joy when they see their costume for the first time, and hearing parents comments on how amazing and adorable the show looked, really makes all of this worth it. We are also so thankful to be able to donate all of the proceeds we earn through the performance to the Fisher House. The Fisher House is dedicated to building comfort homes where military & veteran families can stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital. We hope this opportunity really teaches the kids that charity and giving back to the community is a great thing and it can get you a long way in life.
