Dia de los Muertos

The Living Arts and Science Center in Lexington, Kentucky is a wonderful institution that offers art and science classes to kids and adults of all ages. Through their multiple outreach programs they engage the local community and celebrate the diverse cultures. One such celebration is the annual Dia de los Muertos festival. Each year area artists are invited to create one-of-a-kind altars dedicated to family, friends, and others. In 2019 and 2020 I created altars dedicated to women in my family who were domestic servants and my great grandparents who were Gullah and migrated north from South Carolina.
