Diversity and Human Capital Workshop: Well-being

June 10-11, 2024

The purpose of this workshop series is to promote discussions of ongoing research on the economics of diversity, inclusivity, and human capital by bringing together early-career researchers and leading scholars in these fields. Through a series of annual workshops, we aim to delve into the burgeoning literature on the themes of gender, sexual orientation, discrimination, health, labour, development, and family economics. By facilitating the interaction of economists working on these topics, we hope to provide opportunities for feedback and collaboration which will push the frontier of research.

Last year's inaugural workshop focused on women. The 2024 workshop will showcase the latest research on well-being-related topics. Despite improvements in the average well-being levels, the most vulnerable are continuously left behind in many domains, both in the developed and developing world. The workshop will illuminate some of our society's most fundamental questions, for instance: what are the determinants of mental and physical health?; how can investments in education and children’s development affect their well-being?; what are the impacts of gendered and intimate partner violence on well-being within families? and what are the labour market disparities that affect the most vulnerable populations, including economically disadvantaged groups, ethnic and religious minorities, etc.?
