Feedback

Originally, I planned for a two-question survey that would serve as a pre and post-assessment tool to help me measure to what degree the desired learning outcomes were achieved. However, as described in my reflection, the technology failed and my backup plan was not adequate. Still, I had alternative ways to assess progress and receive feedback:

During Class:

During the group activities, I visited each group (from an appropriate physical distance) to assess their progress on the activities. Some groups were more talkative than others. For the less talkative groups, I asked questions and offered suggestions before I left to encourage conversation.

The debriefing questions and discussion that came after each activity also served as a way for me to assess whether students had grasped the main points of the activities and the lectures that related to them. Although these debriefing sessions did not elicit as much participation as I had hoped for, the answers that the students offered were accurate and impressively reflective, leading me to believe that the class as a whole was grasping the main idea of the lesson.

Instructor Feedback:

In addition to comments made during class, my COR instructor responded to the lesson in an email after:

"This was great. Thank you for getting them sooo engaged."

End-of-semester Survey:

(The results below will be updated as more responses are submitted.)

I asked students to take a brief, three-question survey towards the end of the semester reflecting on the lesson and if they feel it was beneficial to their first-semester experience.

**The scale ranged from 0-4, with 0 being "Not helpful at all" and 4 being "Very helpful."

Any additional feedback is welcome but not required!

  • An activity with preset questions like “who has travelled to another country?” would speed up the icebreaking process, as students wouldn’t have to discuss their own topics, which take time to think of. Regardless, both activities were fun!

  • You were a great TA Miranda. Thank you for always responding to my emails very quickly and helping me out. I wish you the best of luck in all your future endeavors :)

  • You were a super awesome and helpful TA this semester! I always felt comfortable emailing you about anything I needed! Great job!!

According to the results above, students felt that their understanding of diversity improved because of the lesson. They also felt that it helped them create connections with their COR classmates. Taking all of the assessment results and feedback into consideration, I feel confident that students learned what I aimed to teach in this lesson.
