Posted June 17, 2005 at 9:59 PMIn the What Rides Do You Consider Dangerous thread, Robert Niles said "Oooo, that's just *begging* for its own thread there....." in response to "The song from 'It's a Small World' damaged my psyche years ago," by T. Holland Creative.Favorite comment from Small World operator: "Every gues who rides sings the song. Every guest who sings has a different set of lyrics." Whether or not Mr. Niles' comment was sarcastic remains to be seen, but I just wanted to create a thread for the Small World comment.Opinions?

Posted June 17, 2005 at 10:07 PMNo, it's a fair topic.'Small World' doesn't drive me nuts, but after working several years in Frontierland, I've developed the physical ability to mentally tune out repetitive Disney theme park music before it can do any lasting mental damage. Screw Kansas! Evolution really does work! ;-)

Posted June 18, 2005 at 12:02 AMI always thought it would be fun to combine "It's A Small World" and a Shooting Arcade, but then I am a sick puppy! From Adrian Walker

Posted June 18, 2005 at 12:24 AMWell, I hated it when I was young and rode it. The music just drives you to insanity. Now I just avoid going near the attraction. From Alan Bell

Posted June 18, 2005 at 12:59 AMthe music drove my daughter mad, so i put it on my fone as a ringtone but i am cruel like that LOLFrom Greg S

Posted June 18, 2005 at 1:22 AMThat's horrible. =PThe music used to bug me as a kid from the age of 10-13, but past my teenage years, I've learned to deal with it, and just relax...

Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:18 AMA cautionary tale: Years ago, I was conned into riding the Mad Hatter's Temple of Gastrointestinal Distress (aka, "Tea Party") by my old buddy Jim, who could spin a cup so fast that the resulting vortex threatened to tear a hole in the fabric of time and space. I exited the ride dizzy and nauseated, fully expecting to trip over, say, a triceratops egg or perhaps the tail of a brontosaurus. I was relieved to find myself in the 20th century, but this relief didn't last long."Hey, you look like hell, man," Jim said. "Let's get you into some air conditioning." I nodded weakly, praying silently to either barf or belch. Then Jim dragged me to Small World. The mild rocking of the boat and repetition of that insipid song merely prolonged my torment.Remember--this can happen to you! From Jason Lester

Posted June 18, 2005 at 9:13 AMLOL! I would love a Small World Shooting Gallery. Okay, maybe shooting small children dolls is sick, but at least it would give that ride some life.On rides like Duel at Alton Towers you shoot ghosts. What did those ghosts ever do to you? From Ben Mills

Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:37 AM"La, la, la, la la la, Animagique..."From Jason Lester

Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:50 AMAny other ride songs that drive you crazy? Besides Ben's.From Chuck Campbell

Posted June 18, 2005 at 4:08 PMIt's well nigh impossible to get "In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room" out of your head. From Jason Lester

Posted June 18, 2005 at 10:07 PMTrue. "The birds all sing and the flowers bloom in the Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Tiki Room"!From David Allen

Posted June 19, 2005 at 10:14 AMI was damaged by this ride as an 8 year old child. Now, as an adult 40 years older, I refuse to EVER go on that annoying thing EVER again. From Chuck Campbell

Posted June 19, 2005 at 5:33 PM"Welcome to our tropical hideaway,"You lucky people you . . ."Aghh! Make the bad birds stop! From Derek Potter

Posted June 19, 2005 at 9:36 PMIt may be dangerous for me to ride Its A Small World with a shooting gallery. If I hear that song too many times, I just may shoot myself. From Jay Posteraro

Posted June 19, 2005 at 10:23 PMla la laa la la lala la la laaaa, la la laa la la lala la la laaa.....:-)That son g drives me nuts!...but the ride is good for cooling off on a hot day! From Anthony Murphy

Posted June 20, 2005 at 2:07 PMIt is funny, this song does not annoy me and I can stop singing it. I like the ride, a classic! From Mrs K

Posted June 20, 2005 at 9:01 PMWorking in the MS Stores you not only hear the music in the store but also on Main Street. Like Robert said you have to learn to tune it out 'cause i'm telling you something right now. The music in the Candy Palace would make me postal! From Don Neal

Posted June 22, 2005 at 6:06 AMI rode it with my kids for the first time two weeks ago while on vacation down there and I actually was starting to nod off while riding it. Maybe it was my body's way of protecting itself against the song. LOLAnyway, of course my wife and kids loved it. I exacted my revenge by making ALL OF THEM ride Haunted Mansion with me. From Robert Niles

Posted June 22, 2005 at 10:45 AMI like to think of those two rides as the same attraction -- the Mansion just takes place, oh, about 80 years after Small World. Same characters, though.Helps keep me sane. Such as that is.

Posted June 24, 2005 at 10:48 PMNO as revenge you should make em ride TOT! You should see em run to the trash cans! Hehe! I personally can take ToT! BUT! not the torment of duh duh duh Its a annoying world after all aka its a world full of perverts after allFrom Abby Palmer

Posted June 25, 2005 at 7:41 PMI went to Disney with a first timer about my ag, 17. She wanted to do all of the classic rides, so I agreed to go on the Evil Enchanted Devil Doll Ride. In order to keep the stupid song (which is very much like the Shrek "DuLoc" Song) out of my head, I looked for the hidden Mickey Head in the ride. I found it in a paper cutout hanging near the end of the ride.It helps! From Cameron Rust

Posted June 29, 2005 at 8:16 PMI've heard they changed the soundtrack to the less annoying '63 (I think?) World's Fair soundtrack (The WDW Version). From Anthony Murphy

Posted July 5, 2005 at 12:33 PMIt always gets in my head, and it plays through my mind over, and over, and over, and over, and over, and.....From Mara Neuman

Posted August 20, 2005 at 2:39 AMSmall World was a the World Fair in NY in 1963. I think the noise level was not so loud then....If you think about the meaning of the lyrics you could use it to shut off a hard situation worst than a park ride. Try it, if you can remember the lyrics and understand them, it works.Tweet

LD: How long was the process to create and compose the scores?

PS: The initial composition itself really took very little time actually, mainly because I was so inspired by the ride. I did my first demo for the ride score in maybe an hour. I was just exploding with ideas as soon as I saw the ride animatic. I was also doing the sound effects and voice over elements so that took a bit longer to get those all to line up to fit the technical requirements of the ride. I also had to compose the music concentrated in frequencies that would cut through the air and the noise of the ride itself.

Will the attraction audio/on-board and queue music for this ride or any ride be available to the public to freely listen? I loved hearing this music during my time there over the weekend and I would love to be able to listen to it alongside everyone else.

Born and raised in Salem, Oregon, vocalist Andrea Miller's voice has been described as soulful, sensual, hypnotic and endearing. Influenced by Nancy Wilson, Eva Cassidy and Stevie Wonder, Andrea is currently heating up the Los Angeles and Orange County music scenes. Her voice can now be heard on the national jazz radio station KJAZZ 88.1 and many other Internet radio stations worldwide.

"As my countdown to stage got smaller and smaller, I started to hear some marvelous music coming from the stage, floating through my dressing room window. Our opening act was a brilliant young singer named Andrea Miller. The whole band was impressed with her song selection, with her bandmates, arrangements, and her jazz sensibilities. I enjoyed listening the little bit I got to, and the band enjoyed their even closer look." (Al Jarreau) 006ab0faaa
